Review - The Island by Jen Minkman

This is currently FREE on Amazon Kindle

Ok you should know now I love to read anything dystopian, end of the world, zombies, plagues, death, destruction, locusts, you name it, I love it.

This book sounded promising, it had all the hallmarks of what could have been a great book, people separated from the world in a strange society with a wall dividing them from others who did not share the same views as them.

At the age of ten all children on this island leave their parents behind to make their own way in the world, they live with other children until the age of 18 when they are expected to be married and then make their way back to their original community but a young girl called Leia discovers that Saul who is in charge of the youngsters is keeping something from them, in a book, a book which shows three people with a man with a dark helmet in the background. Those three people, Leia and Luke Skywalker and Han Solo plus Darth Vader.

Now the book itself is well written and the characters are good but what threw me was this sudden referencing to Star Wars, they believe they are descended from Luke and Leia and there is talk of the force, I love Star Wars but I just think it served no purpose here at all.

This could have been a really good read but it just felt a little strange with the whole Star Wars thing going on so The Island is awarded 2 out of 5
