Everything about Seventeen’s life is perfect, from her genetics, to her home in Sanctuary, to her status as a Breeder in the Unified World Order. But all that changes when she meets a rogue Enforcer named Pax, who infiltrates Sanctuary and targets her for extraction from the Controlled Repopulation Program. Pax seems to know a little too much about her, and he plants dangerous doubts in her mind that accuse Sanctuary of hiding a dark secret, and that cause Seventeen to question everything she’s ever known.

When Seventeen’s life is threatened, she has little

choice but to run away from Sanctuary with Pax. But for Breeders, contact with men is forbidden by law, and even the simple act of taking Pax’s hand is treason.

Mired in confusion, Seventeen travels with Pax to the outside world and takes the name Pria, the identity of her childhood. But she is far from certain she’s made the right decision when they discover an entire community of people who should no longer exist.

Seventeen, now Pria, is thrust into a position as a key player in a dangerous bid to bring down the Unified World Order. Meanwhile, Pax’s attachment to her and her growing attraction to him contribute to the ever-growing mysteries in her life.

Pria’s journey from a sheltered, na├»ve Breeder to a rebel agent requires not only external transformation but self-discovery. As her world crumbles, Pria must decide who she is and what she really believes.

But the truth comes at a cost, and uncovering it will require a greater treason than she could ever have imagined.

I do love a good dystopia and Breeder does not disappoint.  Set in the future where the world's population has been ravaged, the human race no longer thrives on our lonely planet.

A group of young girls have been selected, brought up to become Breeders, the mothers of civilisation, giving birth to perfect children in the Sanctuary.  They never question their lives they proudly live their roles, it is an honour to be a Breeder.

Seventeen is one of these young girls, stripped of her original identity she lives happily at the Sanctuary until one day she starts seeing a man in the facility, fearing that she is going mad as males are not allowed in there she dismisses his talk of dark secrets and betrayal as hallucinations.

But she is not hallucinating, sent to recuperate after not being at the peak of her health she is rescued by the man, his name is Pax and he tells her she is in serious danger, her life is about to be snuffed out.

Breeder continues with Seventeen who returns to her birth name of Pria, escaping from the Sanctuary and learning from Pax that all she knows is a lie, Pria meets people who shouldn't exist, people who do not fit in to the genetic template of the perfect human.

She struggles with the truth but the question is will she do what is right, will she believe that the Sanctuary are not who they say they are?

Breeder is a great novel with its story flowing along nicely bringing the reader new emotions with every page.  As I said I love a good dystopian novel and this is a great addition to my collection and better still it is the first book in a series.

K B Hoyle has done a great job bringing the characters to life along with the world building she has painted every page with, Go forth and buy it is definitely worth your time!

Praise for Breeder
"Breeder was anything but a let down. The characters were extremely well written, making me able to empathize with Pria and Pax and the situation they find themselves in. I kept turning the pages because I just had to find out what happened to these people and, to my shock, finished the book in a day! "  - Angela  Goodreads Review
