I have been really lucky this year to read some awesome new dystopian novels and as the year comes to a close Rite of Rejection has the honour of being one of my last reads of the year.

Set in an almost utopian world to begin with, people seem happy(ish) living their lives in this future society where people are accepted officially as a part of it at the age of sixteen and their future partners and career paths chosen, well for the girls it is easy they become homemakers and the boys are sent to work at a place of the societies choosing.

Rebecca is one of the sixteen year olds about to go through the acceptance ceremony, which involves all the glitz and glamour of a prom but with a touch of old age charm and manners, she has the dress and the shoes plus she has her dance card where her future suitors must sign their names before they get their first dance.

Her parents have no doubt in her acceptance into the society but during the ceremony the worst possible thing happens, Rebecca is rejected, deemed a future criminal, her place in society is no longer and she is shipped of to a colony called the PIT where the worst of society are thrown to live in filthy and unsafe conditions.

Thankfully she is not alone, a young man who caught her eye at the acceptance ceremony has also been rejected.  Eric is happy to see Rebecca and he introduces her to his group of friends, some who have been there for a long time.  They don't want to live in the PIT any more, they want out and they are going to try to escape.

But how?

They have no idea where they are and even if they did they are surrounded by barbed wire and guards, Can Rebecca, Eric and the rest of the group escape their fates?

There is so much more going on in this book that I haven't even touched upon but not being a fan of spoilers you'll need to read yourself but you learn more about the head of the society and the machine that decides the fate of the members of the society, will Rebecca turn out to be a criminal as predicted?

It is a great young adult read, it reminded me a little of Matched but it is an engaging read and Sarah manages to bring all the emotions that a sixteen year old would go through to life on the pages.

If you love the Matched trilogy and the Delerium trilogy then this will be for you.

#RiteOfRejection Reader Survival Pack
Prize pack includes:

Chapter 17 tissues (because that's when you'll need them), a jumbo sized chocolate bar (a hot commodity inside the PIT), an orange scented candle (courtesy of Rebecca's fondest memory from home, a dandelion pen (as featured on the cover), hand-crafted Molly bag (these are used extensively by the main characters), and a $10 Amazon gift card.
Sarah Negovetich knows you don't know how to pronounce her name and she's okay with that.

Her first love is Young Adult novels, because at seventeen the world is your oyster. Only oysters are slimy and more than a little salty; it's accurate if not exactly motivational. We should come up with a better cliché.

Sarah divides her time between writing YA books that her husband won’t read and working with amazing authors as an agent at Corvisiero Literary Agency. Her life’s goal is to be only a mildly embarrassing mom when her kids hit their teens.
