“You have forgotten who I am.” Words, feather light yet tinged with an uncommon accent, floated down with the snow.
“Show me who you are.” Ana’s eyes glazed and strange shadows flitted across the irises.
Muttering a string of words under her breath, she walked determinedly towards the magically shrouded figure singing, “Reveal to me you, who I cannot see.”
A familiar scent lingered in the air, it was faint but Ana easily detected its sweet notes above the crisp coldness. It was a scent she once knew well. “No…it’s…it’s you! You are not supposed to be here!”
The ice and snow swirling around the figure exploded, swarming Ana in a whirlwind of sharp ice crystals. She tried to cry out but the tiny ice crystals rushed inside her mouth, stealing her voice. With her eyes bulging in agony, Ana fell to the ground, clutching at her neck. The crystals, instead of melting, grew colder as they crawled painfully down her throat. Ana convulsed, flipping onto her front. Unable to even open her mouth, all Ana could do was blink.
Her skin prickled into goosebumps, and minute droplets of ice formed on the tip of each of her individual eyelashes. The flurry of crystals inside Ana traveled to her heart and she was powerless to stop them. Swarming cold around her beating heart, they tightened into lacing, slowing her heart’s rhythm. Ana’s whole body jolted in pain. Her eyes ran across the expanse of white, desperate for a glimpse of the back door to make sure Anthony was still out of sight. Feet, clad in high heeled white boots, drew into Ana’s line of sight.
“It would seem you have forgotten a lot, Ana,” murmured the intruder. “You have forgotten the promise you made.”

Dickerson lives by the Thanet coast on the north-eastern tip of Kent,
in the UK, with her family and playful Siberian husky. She is a
full-time author and writes romantic suspense with a twist, horror,
and fantasy because her characters refuse to play nice and wind up
with more than a few bone-rattling skeletons in their closets.
As
well as being the author of The
Pennington Christmas Curse,
signed with Limitless Publishing, Gina is the author of the murderous
romantic suspense novel
Unveiling Christmas,
the twisted short story collection, Underleaf,
as well as the fantasy, adventurous romance series Mortiswood
Tales, and
has
also written fashion and shopping columns for a local newspaper.
When
she’s not writing, Gina loves rummaging in vintage clothes shops,
taking way too many photographs, and leafing through fashion
glossies.
