“One world. One currency. One bright future.”

That’s the promise made by OneEarth Bank after a global economic collapse–but only for those who accept the insertion of a commerce chip.

When Rielle’s parents refuse to comply, government officials tear her family apart. As punishment for her parent’s crimes, Rielle is forced into a Community Service Contract–a legalized form of slavery–and sold a wealthy, abusive banker.

The Banker’s secrets hold the key to Rielle’s freedom, but will she risk prison or even death to escape and search for her family?

Now I do like a dystopia as you may know, I have read many many variations of the the theme over my reading years, the majority of novels follow the same sort of plot, will this new read Enslavement be any different, will it give me something new?

It does, the world economy has collapsed, the OneEarth Bank seems to be in charge, if you want to live a quiet life you do what the bank says and that means being inserted with a commerce chip, this allows you to walk in to a shop and buy what you need without the aid of credit cards or cash.

Not everyone wants to be implanted and those that choose this option are hunted down and imprisoned, they are marked as thieves and traitors, parents are taken from their children and in the case of Rielle she is sold as a contract, a slave, to a rich, horrible banker.

Rielle is part of the banker's housekeeping staff, together with the other contracts she has to keep his mansion spotless, the others are mostly friendly but she finds she can't talk and decides to stay quiet which the banker at first hates, striking and injuring her but later decides it is in his favour as he feels that she can keep things secret.

The house certainly has its share of secrets, the banker is making shady deals, his wife is hiding something and a fellow contract seems to be making moonlight trips outside the house, what else is this mansion hiding?

As Rielle's contract continues a new house guest in the form of the bankers nephew rocks the boat, he is friendly and respectful to the staff, and when his father shows up he berates his brother for his treatment of his staff, but Rielle seems to be singled out by the nephew, he seems to know about her past and he tries his best to get her to talk to him.

Another new arrival in the form of a young contract gives Rielle hope as she discovers news of her younger brother, she begins to hope that her family are ok and she decides that she is going to escape no matter what.

Does she make it?  You will have to read it yourself to find out but I will say that Enslavement is a very enjoyable read with a refreshing new take on the YA dystopia genre, well written characters and great world building make this for me a 4 star read!
