Science fiction films have been a massive part of my life from an early age, as a teenager I would sit and constantly watch my mum's videos (yes it was that long ago) of Aliens and Blade Runner.
I have never ever lost my love of the genre and this is my list of my favourite sci-fi films of all time in no particular order because to be honest I can't decide which one to vote number 1!
Do you share any of these faves?
STAR TREK
The new generation of Star Trek films look and sound brilliant. They are full of action and humour, did I mention they look good? That first film where you see the ship yards just took my breath away!
BLADE RUNNER
Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Edward James Olmos, a great cast, a great film. It is dark and mysterious, brooding and breathtaking plus the music is just amazing.
THE STAR WARS TRILOGY
It's Star Wars, Do I really need to elaborate!!
AVATAR
Over the top, totally bonkers but my god it looks amazing. I can't wait for the opening of Avatarland at Disney World!
SUNSHINE
Danny Boyle directs amongst others Cillian Murphy and Chris Brown is this awe inspiring film that looks good, sounds good and is totally creepy to boot.
CARGO
I think this film is Swiss, it has subtitles but before you go no I am not watching that, I implore you watch this film. It, like all the others on this list, looks amazing and this has a thrilling scary plot.
ALIEN & ALIENS
Ripley is a badass, what more can I say!
2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
This is an old one but the classical score and the fact that this film is literally out of this world, the opening scenes are legendary.
WALL-E
It is not just a kids film, it is Disney Pixar at their best making grown ups cry plus the spacey stuff is so cool.
SERENITY
Captain Malcolm Reynolds can be the captain of my firefly class ship any time - a modern classic, why they cancelled the series....
What is on your list?
The new Star Trek, I have so far seen them all can't wait for the next one!
ReplyDeleteI love them, so good!
DeleteBlade Runner is one of my dad's favourite films, and he went on about it to me for AGES. However, before I watched it, I read the book, and turns out I much preferred that version... oops!
ReplyDeleteI love Star Wars. Phantom Menace, whilst not being the best, gives me the warm fuzzies (when JarJar is off screen), because I remember watching it in the cinema when I was 9 or 10. I'm so glad you've mentioned Sunshine, that is SUCH a great film!
And... I love Firefly. I have Serenity on DVD - but I've never watched it. I know what happens and I don't want to watch it because that means certain events will be true and I CAN'T HAVE THAT. Haha, I'm in denial!
I have never read the book, I really should!
DeleteThe Phantom Menace does get a lot of slack but I did enjoy, Darth Maul gives me nightmares!!!
Oh you have to watch it, I know certain things happen, especially at the end to one character but it is an amazing film, totally brilliant!!
Now that I think about it, I haven't watched many sci-fi movies. But yes, Disney Pixar movies make me cry almost every time! I loved Star Wars and Avatar too. I'll have to check out the others that you've listed here some time. Great post! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Disney Pixar films are amazing and Wall-E was just so great, I cry at everyone of them!!
DeleteWall-E definitely made me cry! I unfortunately haven't watched too much sci-fi (I haven't even watched Avatar, eep!), but everyone has been recommending Firefly to me, so I'm assuming Serenity will also be a to-watch, haha. Thanks for sharing your list! :)
ReplyDeleteYou must watch Firefly and Serenity, they are the best. Avatar is long but well worth watching!
DeleteMost of these films would make my list as well. I can't believe you have Sunshine, though. I love that film, but a lot of people don't seem to dig it. Then again, I'd watch anything by Danny Boyle or with Cillian Murphy, so...
ReplyDeleteBlade Runner and Alien would take my top 2 spots, now and forever. I'm still pissed that they're trying to remake Blade Runner.
Cillian Murphy, those eyes, so blue........
DeleteSunshine is excellent and it looks amazing too!
Argh I didn't know they where trying to remake Blade Runner, they had better not go there!
I have watched almost all of these. I have seen every single episode of the original Star Trek, and I loved the new movies. I think the characters were spot on for the original cast. I am also a big Star Wars fan, so of course I can't wait for The Force Awakens to come out. I heard Han Solo is in it. Han Solo is like my first and favorite bad boy crush. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen, I am so excited for The Force Awakens, it looks amazing and old Han Solo is still a rogue!!
DeleteI've never really been into sci-fi films. I'm trying to see more nowadays though, and I really do like the new Star Trek films!

They are excellent, they don't take themselves too seriously!
DeleteI have never watched Star Trek before >.< But Star Wars is definitely one of my favorite sci-fi's. Does Avengers count as sci-fi? Because those are my favorite :D
ReplyDeleteAsma @ IceyBooks
Yep I suppose it it sci-fi, I love the Avengers especially Loki!!!
DeleteThere are still quite a few of these that I am going to need to watch at some point! Star Wars will always be a favourite of mine :3 I really thought Wall-e was cute, and I love Avatar as well.
ReplyDeleteWall-E is adorable, I would love my own Wall-E!!!
DeleteI love, love, love Blade Runner, and the Alien quadrilogy (particularly the first and second movies) are in my favourite sci-fi movies of all time, too. Ripley is my hero - haha. ^_^
ReplyDeleteEven though I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, I'm still keen to see The Force Awakens. It'll be interesting to see what it's like out of George Lucas' hands.
Ripley is a total badass, she is incredible!!! The classics are the best!
DeleteSunshine! Maybe I'm just not used to horror or thriller or whatever it is, but the movie had me shouting-at-the-screen, hiding-behind-my-hands, completely freaking out. So few people have even heard of it let alone seen it though, and it's one of my favorites! Then again, I only knew about because I'm a Cillian Murphy fan :-P
ReplyDeleteHehe, I am the same, a fan of Mr Murphy and those eyes!! But honestly Sunshine was amazing!
DeleteIt was majorly scary in bits and that ending was heartbreaking!
Serenity! <3 I love that movie so much. My list would also have the Stargate movies (though not the original one) because I'm a Stargate series fan, haha.
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten about Stargate, I used to love watching the tv show!
DeleteI have never seen Cargo. I love subtitled movies, so it is a go for me. I loved Sunshine, but I thought I was the only person who had seen it. Glad to know you loved it, too. Have you ever seen Silent Running? Besides 2001, it is my favorite SF. Have a box of tissues ready. :)
ReplyDeleteSunshine is brilliant but yep I think it is overlooked! Cargo is great, there is something about subtitled films that I just love! Nope never seen Silent Running will check it out!
