I loved this book, it is a bit raw to begin with but ended up being an amazing read.
I'm gonna recap my week and give you an idea of what I have coming up plus anything else newsworthy!

This week we lost two legends, the first was of course the legend that is David Bowie who passed away at the far too young age of 69. Being a child of the 80's, Bowie to me was dancing in the streets with Jagger along with dancing in the outback in the video for Lets Dance.
The passing of Alan Rickman was a shock, he is a phenomenal actor and depending on your age he is either Hans Gruber, The Sheriff of Nottingham or of course Severus Snape a role he made his own. I love Helen Mirren's description of his voice "could suggest honey or a hidden stiletto blade", very apt. I personally loved him as the voice of Marvin the paranoid android in the Hitchhiker's Guide.
However you remember them they will be greatly missed.
In bookish news this week I came across Spark Joy by Marie Kondo, the Japanese tidying wizard and it has set me on a tidying bender, I am unstoppable!! I am like folding my socks and everything. As a real bit of a mess magnet I am determined to be tidy even if it breaks me!! Read more about it here on Popsugar.
Have a good week everyone!

Happy Sunday!
I remember the David Bowie of old as well. I wasn't a HUGE fan but as I grew up in the 70s and 80s he was always present and larger than life. I mostly remember Alan Rickman in Sense and Sensibility and loved him in that!
ReplyDeleteAm slightly intrigued by The End of the World Running Club... could be the only thing which gets me running! :-)
Both are a sad loss, far too soon.
DeleteSense and Sensibility, I have never seen his version, I must rectify that!
I was so sad about the deaths of David Bowie and especially Alan Rickman. I was a huge fan of his films and the first time I read Harry Potter, I saw him in my mind as Snape before the film even came out. Bloody cancer destroys so many lives.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the Life First trilogy-great characters, lots of twists and great tension filled writing! Book Three was my favourite. Hope you enjoy it!
Alan Rickman was an amazing actor, to me it was Die Hard that brought him to my attention originally he was such a bad ass in it.
DeleteLife First does look good, hope to read soon.
It was such a sad week with those two passings. David Bowie was from Labyrinth to me just because of my age but then I got to know all of his music. And Alan Rickman is just amazing in so many things. Yay for getting Glass Sword. Hope you enjoy it and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to say I have never seen Labyrinth, will need to look it up!
DeleteYes, it was a very sad week, Heather. It's always weird to me when people who are basically strangers can impact our lives so much that we feel devastated when they pass away.
ReplyDeleteYour new books look great, I love that you got a coloring book from a publisher! I'm really enjoying pulling out all my pencils to color while I listen to a book.
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

I was so excited to get that colouring book, it really was lovely and so great to get!
DeleteYes, it is sad, they were both very much in the limelight as I grew up and will be missed terribly.
It's been snowing here too fun times! I loved Alan Rickman, he was so over the top in that Robin Hood movie, and I liked him in other things too. Amazing actor. I think that description of him is right on.
ReplyDeleteTotally amazing, he was so camp and over the top in Robin Hood, you are right! I haven't seen that film for years, I feel a re-watch coming on!
DeleteI wasn't really a fan of David Bowie, but I really loved Alan Rickman's acting work. Especially as Professor Snape, he was just brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of your new books. I'm really curious about 'Life First', I heard that it was really good.
Have a great week ;)
He was the perfect Professor Snape, I don't think anyone else could do a better job!
DeleteI was sad to hear about Alan Rickman. Such an amazing actor. I first saw him in Robin Hood and then in Sense and Sensibility where he played the wonderful Colonel Brandon. I also loved his portrayal of Snape in the Harry Potter movies.
ReplyDeleteI want to read Glass Sword. I'm looking forward to picking it up when it is published later this year. I should probably read Marie Kondo's books though I don't know if it would help me. I am such a messy and disorganized person!
I am totally messy and disorganised but since buying the book it really has given me a kick up the backside to tidy up, so every weekend I throw out more and more!
DeleteI did a small tribute to Mr Rickman on my blog as well, he will be sorely missed, I loved him as Snape! Nice books, but I love the funny!! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteI was the best as Snape! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteSo sad by all the recent losses. I heard that the actor who played Grizzly Adams died recently as well--I loved that show growing up. I hope you enjoy your new books! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a shame, it just seems to be one after another just now.
DeleteGood luck with all the tidying! That colouring book you got looks so awesome. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lola, I have far too many colouring books but I do love this one!
DeleteBoth will be sorely missed. We are all getting older yet it's still a shock when someone prominent and beloved dies. Nice books this week. A lot of authors I'd not heard of before.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday post - http://fuonlyknew.com/2016/01/17/whats-new-on-my-bookshelf-143-and-the-sunday-post/
They will be, I think they touched a lot of lives in one way or another.
DeleteI know some of Bowie's music; I just think it's sad that he was still so young. I am really upset about Alan Rickman though. He was definitely Severus Snape for me but I loved him in Hitchhiker's Guide, Love Actually, and pretty much anything he was ever in. :)

He was great as Marvin the paranoid android, that deadpan voice was perfect!
DeleteI'm so upset that David Bowie died, since I grew up watching "Labyrinth" and I really missed his singing. Here's my
ReplyDeleteSunday Post
I haven't seen Labyrinth, I really should watch it!
DeleteOMG! GLASS SWORD!!! I so want to read that. It is only available outside of the US on Netgalley :(
ReplyDeleteThe End of the World Running Club looks so good. I can't wait to read your review, somehow I missed getting that book.
Have a great week Heather!
I hate that, it is usually all the good books on NG are US / Canada only! Hope you get to read soon! The running club is awesome, almost makes me want to take up running!
DeleteI have to double back and get to your, The Night Parade, review. I need the tidying book as well a this moment. Ha ha. I hope February is more exciting! Have a wonderful week. :)
ReplyDeleteNight Parade was amazing, I need to visit Japan!!
DeleteOh, Glass Sword. I still have to read Red Queen.
ReplyDeleteWe had snow this weekend as well though not too much. I like watching snow fall but not when having to drive through it late at night like on Saturday night.
I really enjoyed Red Queen, better than I hoped! Have a good week!
