I've been watching....#9 - Dark

During this time of lockdown Netflix has quite frankly kept me sane with its vast amount of televisual delights.  It really does have something for everyone and it has plenty of what I like to watch, namely European subtitled creepy crime tv shows.

Now I have watched plenty of French and Danish shows but never German.  Dark has consistently been getting excellent reviews online and Netflix keeps telling me I should be watching it so what the hell I gave it a whirl.

Now I am about to finish series one, I am already thankful I have another two seasons to watch because my mind is blown, literally 🤯.

I mean first of all it looks amazing, I don’t know who is responsible for the cinematography in all these types of shows but they really do an amazing job - the setting of Winden, a fictional town in Germany is suitably gloomy with dark forests, strange bunkers, a creepy watchmaker and mysterious caves along with a nuclear power plant that is definitely hiding something.

Now I could explain the plot to you in a bit more detail but I can’t.  Why?, well put it this way I have to watch this show with the wiki notes open on my iPad because it features that brain liquefying genre Time Travel.

Netflix does says this about this show
A missing child sets four families on a frantic hunt for answers as they unearth a mind-bending mystery that spans three generations.

Yes, time travel, many books I have read over the years and many times my head has hurt from trying to figure who belongs to when and where, and as there are quite a few characters in this show it can be a little hard going.  Let me tell you though, it is worth it.

It goes back in forward in time very well, you meet the characters in various periods of their timelines and many times I’ve gone WTF as it weaves it magical time travel spell.

If you are looking for a show that will suck you in, leave your brain feeling exhausted and sit in your thoughts for weeks then Dark is definitely it.
