Ever caught yourself screaming, “I could just kill that teacher” What would it take to justify such antisocial behavior and weeks of detention? Especially if he’s the best teacher you’ve ever had and determined to help you discover your hidden talents, raise your grades, and acquire opportunities you never dreamed possible? How about blowing up the moon and threatening to do the same to Mother Earth—unless you take him out first?! Plus a reward of a cool 100 million from the Ministry of Defense!

Okay, now that you’re committed... How are you going to pull this off? What does your pathetic class of misfits have in their arsenal to combat Teach’s alien technology, bizarre powers and...tentacles?

I was never a huge fan of creatures with tentacles 🐙 something about them just made me go “ick”, far too many arms and suckers and just yuck 🤢  I didn’t realise when I opened this bright yellow book that my entire attitude towards all things tentacled was about to change.

First of all I want to address the cover, how sunny and smiley is it, is is a happy smile or a creepy smile, your decide, I’m going for slightly deranged smile.  The smile in question belongs to teacher extraordinaire Koro Sensei of classroom 3-E Kunugigaoka High, he is a genial looking chap apart from the fact he is a crazy octopus from outer space with a passion for teaching.

If you read the synopsis above, the gist is part of the moon has been blown up by our tentacled teacher and he is going to blow up our beloved planet too but before he blows us to smithereens he is going to teach class 3-E for a whole year.  The Ministry of Defence has great plans they want to use this class to kill Koro Sensei and whoever hits the target will earn 100 million I’m assuming Japanese Yen.  This classroom is ready for anything.

Class 3-E is made up with the misfits, the kids assumed not smart enough or well behaved enough to stay in the higher grades, they have nothing to lose or prove and they could really do with winning that money.

Their tentacled teacher has other ideas, he enjoys the thrill of being nearly being assassinated everyday but he also has a passion for teaching and he is going to his damnedest to teach those kids a lesson they’ll never forget, that maybes sounds threatening, he is literally going to teach them everything they need to know from science to maths to physical education.

Volume 1 introduces us to our huge cast, sets the scene and in my case sucked me in for the next twenty volumes - the cast of kids range from the cool kids, science nerds, goth girls and the quiet one who you should never underestimate - his name is Nagisa Shiota.

I love the start of this, it gives you so many questions like where did Koro Sensei come from, why are the kids in this class and of course will they manage to assassinate him?  As there is another twenty awesome volumes , there is a lot to still be explained and a cast of supporting characters waiting to show their assassination talents in the wings.

I’ll never look at an octopus in the same way again.  🐙
