Well, anything exciting happened this week to you guys?

No, well I’m the same, its like Groundhog Week.

In blogging, I was excited to receive an extra two badges from NetGalley this week, check em out in my side bar, I got a top reviewer and the reviewing ten books badge, aren’t they nice!  If you read this last week you’ll know I had to resign up for NG so to get these badges was an achievement!  Baby steps!

Other things blog things I have done this week include restore my blogs Facebook page and restoring the link to the RSS feed so please feel free to like or sign up, I’d love that!

In my real life, Scotland is opening up more and more, people who have had cabin fever have landed on our doorstep in their caravans and tents to enjoy the countryside, some of them with no respect for social distancing.  Scotland still seems to be doing well but the worry of course as we have seen with other countries is will there be more cases as the lockdown is eased.

My “favourite” place for news - Sky News - between reporting about Johnny Depp very strange relationship with Amber Heard and cases of the Bubonic Plague inMongolia told me that as winter approaches the UK could be in for 120,000 more cases of COVID.

I also drove for the first time since the 24th March, I’ve not needed to go anywhere since I’ve been on furlough so it was nice to get behind the wheel.  We bought a Tesla model X last year and I love love love my car, she is called Serenity (after the spaceship), I wasn’t sure if driving electric would be my thing but I’m a total convert.  It was lovely to get out and see friends and did me the world of good.

Stay safe and happy reading x

Serenity, my four wheeled baby!

  1. We bought a new car recently. I've been making the joke that it is very economical because we haven't had to put any petrol in yet, but that's because we haven't driven anywhere really! Have a great week.

    1. It so strange, I wasn’t driving any miles a week, just a couple of hundred but I miss it. But now I don’t need to go anywhere for the foreseeable!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I had to look up Undiscovered Country: "In UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, readers will journey into an unknown region that was once the United States of America-a mysterious land that has been literally walled off from the rest of the world for well over a century...." Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. I am terribly afraid that is where we are heading.

If you are worried about more cases of Covid in the winter, the UK could do what our president has done and reroute the information from hospitals about numbers of people there so that the information cannot be disseminated. Also, the president says that if we would test half the number of people, we'd have half the number of cases. And so on. Oh my. This man was elected president. Do you have room in Scotland for a few unhappy Americans?

It helps so much to get out and see people, even if they have to stay six feet away. And it helps to visit others on their blogs. Take care this week.

    1. I think we could find some space for a few Americans, I have a spare room!

I have to avoid watching the news regarding Mr T plus the fact Kanye West wants to be president now its just bonkers.

It is nice to see people, I had visitors today, its could for the soul, its nice to see people in the flesh rather than on a screen.

  3. Congrats on your Netgalley achievements.
Parts of Australia are now experiencing the dreaded second wave, stay safe!

Wishing you a great reading week

  4. Ah a new car. I was worried about mine during lockdown that the battery would go flat. I used to sneak out once a week and take it for a little turn around a few blocks. When we did come out, evidently lots of batteries were flat! Congrats on the NetGalley achievements. Always nice.

  5. Sky used to be the news channel I watched but the journalists especially that Sam Coates at the Downing Street briefings drove me mad. I watch CNN now as it's giving virus reports from around the world which my dad and I like. I can also keep an eye on the virus reports in the US where a lot of my blogger pals live. I'm not seeing much evidence of social distancing most places that I go but my dad and I have been masked since March!

    1. I was in Tesco the other day and people weren’t wearing masks, I know someone who works in the CoOp and they said people are having fights in the aisles because they think they are too close or not wearing masks.

  6. I hope your numbers in Scotland keep on going down - and right now, I'm trying not to think too much ahead, as I find it just scares and depresses me... Your car looks lovely and I think the name is great. I call mine Twinkle and love her far too much:)). Have a great week, Heather.

  7. Hi there Heather! I've also played around with my blog this week. I've imported all content from my previous blog, but still need to beautify it.

We are having winter in SA at the moment and our numbers are really spiking! Maybe the UK will be more aware and keep your numbers down.

Electric cars... Not big in South Africa. Maybe because we have too much loadshedding...! LOL. But I'm glad you enjoy it!

Hope you will have a good week. Here's my The Sunday Post

  10. We are staying in except to take walks and grocery shop. Yesterday for the first time we went to a local park and rented a canoe for an hour. I saw the play Warpaint on Broadway and it was awesome. Hope you have a good week and stay safe

  11. Lovely to finally get to go out for a little drive! My daughter and I have rarely left (I am a teacher) and I only get groceries when she is with her dad. It has been a strange summer but we are safe and I intend to keep it that, even while half the US is deciding that they just don't care. Blech. Stay safe, be well.

  13. Love your car! I like to drive mine way past the expiration date, but a Tesla would be a great next car. Our numbers continue to go up here so I worry that we are headed for another partial shutdown. I wish people would stay home or wear a mask until things were under control, but that seems too hard for people here :(

  14. Ooh, now that is a shiny car. One day... one day!

Cases of bubonic plague aren't too unusual in Mongolia -- it's endemic in the wildlife, so when humans cross paths with animals, there can be transmission. It's not something I would worry about enormously, if that helps at all! Y. pestis is readily treatable with antibiotics, even if it does spread.

Sorry, can't resist explaining -- infectious diseases are my pet topic. :D

    Enjoy the new books. :)

  15. It’s groundhog week here too. Just work, exercise, take care of a baby, and read. It’s so boring! I haven’t driven a car since April. Oh, and I don’t think you have to worry about Bubonic Plague. I live in the western US, and we’ve had it here forever. It’s treatable and hard to catch. Not like COVID. Have a great week!

  20. I've seen a tag about the trial for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Trial but didn't read the story. Will have to catch up. Congrats on getting the X! It is like a spaceship, right? My daughter had one but turned it back in this past April and plans on getting another, but hasn't since she hasn't been driving much with Covid. My son just got the Model Y and we're thinking of getting that one or the 3 soon. If you can't tell we're Tesla fans here.

Great that you're getting your reviewing stats back up with Netgalley! Arkhangel looks interesting. I look forward to your thoughts!

I'll like you on Facebook. It's hard getting followers back. I had to redo my Facebook page when a co-blogger dropped off our blog and it was attached to her personal account. It's been slow getting followers again.

I love my Tesla, we would love a Y but they aren’t available to order yet in this country, the 3 is lovely too, the only thing with the X is that the back doors are a bit lairy but I’ve gotten used to people looking at it.

Yep it can be a bit disheartening to build followers it I’m just going to take time. I’ll follow you back!

  23. I'm down in Nottingham and wondering when we will see OUR spike in Covid, since Leicester and Sheffield have recently seen the same. Scotland (and Wales) seem to have made a much better job of things than Boris has, hopefully it all stays well for you!
I've stepped away from Netgalley - I tend to read indie published authors and am on several 'arc teams' so sites that provide arcs are bad for me. They feed my addiction and if I'm not careful I end up with more books than I have time to review. This is my year of cutting back and reading more of the books that have been waiting on my kindle for a very long time.
    Have a great week!

  25. This must be the week for car things. I just put gas in the new car I bought in March for the first time. I have only driven it about 230 miles - which is less than 60 miles a month. 28. Reopening is unsettling. Not knowing if it's too early, how people will respond, will they still be cautious and safe. My state (Florida) opened much, much too early and we are now paying the price. But hooray for being able to get out and enjoy your car now! :)

  31. I have Netgalley badges but noticed they have stopped working on my sidebar today. Yours look great. I have a 2017 Chevy Volt (hybrid) and I only have to get gas once or twice a year if on a long trip. I get about 60 miles a day on electric. But right now we don't go anywhere. My brother got me into the electric cars. He's had Leaf, a CMax, and a Tesla.

Have a lovely week! Stay safe and be kind.

We started opening up a couple weeks ahead of Scotland and so far it's been ok. It's been nice to see people and get out and feel semi-normal. I dont mind the masks and hand sanitisers and keeping my distance as long as it means I can get out my house sometimes.

  34. Groundhog Week, heh! -- an excellent description. I feel that way, too. How can it be late July already? One week blurs into the next, and nothing much happens in my personal life; only the news varies (somewhat) from day to day. I'm glad you are enjoying having some restrictions lifted. We've done such a bad job with containing the virus here in the US that I expect we'll be returning to widespread lockdowns before long. *sigh*

  35. That is nice you got those badges from Netgalley! I checked your Facebook page and noticed I still liked it.

Netherlands is in a similar situation, more and more lockdown rules are removed and I am still afraid the cases will go up again especially as no follows social distancing anymore and people go on vacations again and such.

That's nice you got to go out and drive again in your car. I am hearing more and more electric cars driving around here, they make a different noise than the rest.

The one thing I dislike about my car is if I’m driving at a slow speed people just don’t hear you, I think they are supposed to be changing something on on it so it makes a car noise.

There are lots of people coming to visit my home town, the population seems to have grown, its nice to see the town busy but I do worry.
