Review - Giant Days Volume 2 by John Allison

Title: Giant Days Volume Two

Author: John Allison

Publisher: Boom Box

Release Date: 6th April 2016

Continuing their first semester at university, fast friends Susan, Esther, and Daisy want to find their footing in life. But in the face of hand-wringing boys, holiday balls, hometown rivals, and the willful, unwanted intrusion of "academia," they may be lucky just to make it to spring alive.  Collects issues 5-8.

To recap our lovely trio of ladies are...
  • Susan Ptolemy - The one with the most common sense, she keeps the other two on the straight and narrow (most of the time), she’s a bit of a slob and you’ll be happy to learn she’s studying medicine!
  • Esther de Groot - Goth goddess, fashion icon, attractor of men and women, drama queen, accident prone, student of English lit.  Loyal friend.  Life of the party.
  • Daisy Wooton - She is said to 50% hair and 100% not ready for this world, she is sweet and innocent, raised by her loving granny.  She is struggling a little with her sexuality and is definitely not prepared for drinking and partying.  Archaeology student.
Ok volume two takes us to the ball, Esther shows off her creative side and whips out her sewing machine to get the girls glammed up for their night on the town.  They are joined by the ever so sweet and kind Ed Gemmell who has a massive unrequited crush on Esther and Graham McGraw, Susan’s arch nemesis and a total man’s man.

The ball doesn’t quite go to plan with Esther’s sultry attempt to attract the opposite sex with her gothic ways fails miserably, Susan’s attempt to not hook up with McGraw also fails miserably and Daisy, well she decides to kiss her first boy and that boy is Ed

The rest of the book has the girls leaving for the Christmas break where Susan finds herself back in her old stomping ground and at the mercy of one of her enemies.  It’s also exam time where Esther has a monument breakdown realising that studying is quite high on the Must Do list when it comes to exams.  Daisy discovers Friday Night Lights and becomes obsessed turning herself into a ballsy Texas gal.

This series just gets better and better, the girls banter is perfect and totally relatable and believable.

On to volume 3!
