Welcome to my Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberley over at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer . I’m also going to link up with Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality It’s Monday! What are your reading hosted by Book Date Sunday Salon hosted by Readerbuzz |
Hello, hope you are all safe and well.
First of all Season 3 of The Rain has started and it is amazing, anyone else watching it? I love it!
Groundhog week is still a thing! I’m really struggling to remember what day it is. I am trying to keep busy, at the weekend I helped (by helped I mean stood about and offered words of encouragement) whilst my husband replaced the concrete slabs at the front of the house, I had to use a cement mixer and everything!! It was hard work but the end results where good.
My two girls go back to school next week, My youngest daughter starts her first year of high school on Wednesday, with my eldest daughter starting her second year of high school on Friday. My youngest is not amused that her big sisters gets more time off than her. The school seems to have it under control however masks do not need to be worn at school, I’m a little curious to see how this pans out. The kids don’t need to socially distant but the teachers do. They also have to follow wipe down procedures at the beginning and end of every class along with a few other rules.
There has been a small increase in cases, 54 cases came from one pub in Aberdeen alone, which has now resulted in a localised lockdown for Aberdeen. We were doing so well but people aren’t listening, we went for a trip in the car on Saturday to the town of St Andrews, the beach front was packed with people, I’m concerned that’s its all going to kick off again.
In blog news I finally managed to switch on my custom domain then I decided to figure out Mailchimp and create newsletters - I’d love if you sign up - link is in the sidebar, then I’ll try and figure out how to send them!
Have a lovely week everyone and stay safe!

"by helped I mean stood about and offered words of encouragement" haha, this made me chuckle! I bet it looks lovely after your hard work!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you and your girls. These times are frightening, and I hope you are able to stay safe as the school year opens.
Have a great week!
I read in another comment it’s called supervision!
DeleteThanks for your kind words Lori.
Haha I mentioned The Rain in my post too! I've watched the first episode so far, I'm glad the show is back! So far so good. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see how different areas are handling back to school. Here they're doing masks for high schoolers but not younger grades. And some kids are going back while others are doing remote learning. Of course the situation here is a lot worse than Scotland! I hope everything goes well where you are! We're pretty nervous here since America isn't doing such a great job...
Have an awesome week!
I’m enjoying it too but it sucks this is the last series.
DeleteI’m a little nervous about them going back, so many other countries have their children wearing masks, I’m not sure why we have gone this way, I’m sure there is medical reasoning behind it.
Thanks for stopping by!
Good luck to your children as they return to school. I really hope your schools are successful in trying to get back to normal. I know schools in my area are rolling out in person classes for the fall, but it's mostly because only about 25% of the parents are choosing the in-person option. Maybe it will work here. I hope so. Good job with the concrete. Gold star for you and the mister.
ReplyDeleteI hope they are successful too, I’m glad they are going back to school, they’ve missed it so much! I know there will be a lot of parents who’ll probably keep the it kids off.
DeleteConcrete all down, we were both sore for days!
Good luck to you and your kids starting school. I think it's great that your country is doing well enough to send them back to school. Here in the US I'm in shock at the schools who have decided to do this, because we are NOT doing well with Covid😬
ReplyDeleteThe US seems to be really getting it bad, I hope it’s gets back on track soon. I just hope sending the kids back doesn’t lead to an increase in cases.
DeleteI'm still safely hiding in my house to keep away from the virus! Once the kids are back at school we might venture out on a drive round the coast. We usually head to a brilliant chip shop in Ardrossan but it'd be too crowded right now to be safe. I fear for more mini lockdowns if people can't behave themselves!
ReplyDeleteI think that sounds wise! The police were out in force here at the weekend because of all the tourists parking where they shouldn’t and blocking the roads, I wait a wee while before getting your chippy!
DeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who can't remember what day of the week it is right now! :D
ReplyDeleteI have no idea, it could be Tuesday or Friday?!
DeleteOoh, a good haul! I've been wondering about picking up Devolution. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteBarnsley's probably thiiis close to going back into lockdown. Sigh.
Devolution I started last night, I’m feeling I made the wrong decision buying the kindle format, maybe should have shelled out for the physical book.
DeleteFingers crossed lockdown doesn’t come back in to force, stay safe!
I hope the school year gets off to a good start for your daughter! My daughter's school district is starting remotely this coming Monday. Everyone will be online. And those who will eventually ease back to in person will have to wear masks and social distance while at school. Of course, the numbers in the U.S., including in my own state, are still pretty high.
ReplyDeleteYour new books all sound very good! I have read Devotion of Suspect X, and enjoyed it. I hope you will too.
I hope you have a great week. Stay safe and well!
I’m looking forward to Suspect X, I think there is a film or tv series too!
DeleteI have a feeling they made need to introduce masks in our schools if cases increase. My kids want to go back to school but I think they’d also be happy to keep at online school.
Thanks for stopping by!
My son doesn't start school until September, and they're doing everything online for the first semester. We've had an increase in cases in our area, so they want to be safe. He's really bummed about it and wants to be around children his own age. The girls would've started Pre-K this year, but there's no online course for that. We'll just be teaching everyone at home!
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
I think that is the sensible thing to do especially since you’ve had an increase in cases. It is a shame as the kids want to be around their friends but you have to be sensible. Have fun teaching at home!
DeleteOoo lots of new books to enjoy there, Heather! I also hope your daughters' return to high school goes well - We don't return till 3rd September, but still don't really know what that will look like! Take care and happy reading! 😃
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica, hope all goes well for you on the 3rd!
DeleteI hope that the return to school goes well, and that there is no further lockdown. We are back in lockdown again. It's supposed to last for another month but we will see. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI hope there is no further lockdown, but its changing day to day, my eldest is crossing her fingers that as lockdown is reintroduced on Friday so she doesn’t have to go back!
DeleteThat's my kind of help, too, Heather!
ReplyDeleteWe have had some more covid cases here in Switzerland, too, and masks are mandatory in all public indoor places - including schools. We don't start school until the 24th, but I feel quite confident about it. Between masks, wiping down desks and chairs, sanitizing hands and distancing as much as possible, I think we'll be OK.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading <3
Linda @ (un)Conventional Bookworms
My kids are doing the same apart from the wearing masks indoors, I’m sure someone in the government knows what they are doing!
DeleteHave a good week Linda.
Don't you know standing about and offering words of encouragement has another name? Yes, that's supervision, and it's an important job.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that students will not have to social distance (honestly, how could you enforce that anyway?) but that teachers will. I hope things go well for your daughters.
Giant Days and Odessa both look interesting to me. I'm curious about those stories especially.
Bless you Deb, Supervision is the correct term!!! I shall be using it more often!
DeleteI don’t think they could enforce students staying apart from one another, I hope it goes well but after the excitement of going back to school now that it is a day a way they are both grumpy!
Good luck with the school reopening! My kids are a couple years older. One has decided to stick with remote school (as his is fully remote) but the other has decided to take a term off because she hates the remote thing so much - she didn't want to sit alone in her room watching classes on her computer. I just hope things get back to normal by 2021 - this is so hard on everyone!
ReplyDeleteI don’t think I could do the remote school, there are too many distractions about. Fingers crossed we can just write off 2020 and 2021 proves to be a better year!
DeleteI need to figure out Mailchimp newsletters too, though I have a standard mailer that is already being sent regularly. Yay, I am glad that things are getting back to normal for you.
ReplyDeleteI’m going to give it a bash, if it doesnt work its easy enough to switch off!
DeleteI need to catch up on The Rain! And we are all about home projects these days too. I am sure yours look great!
ReplyDeleteI love The Rain, it is so good! I’m sad this is the last season though!
DeleteAdded The Rain to my list.
ReplyDeleteSchool doesn't start here until September. Masks may be required. High schools are considering 50/50 class/online. Distancing will be required.
We have the same idiots here, going to the beaches and bars. Our mayor was just talking about the boat parties that are taking place in the harbour with no distancing and alcohol which is not allowed on boats.
I think they have been too quick to open the bars, drunk people can’t socially distant!! I just cant believe people cant stay away from each other, they are all crazy!
DeleteI'm a teacher in the States and my students come back on Wednesday. Everyone has to wear masks and desk/chairs must be wiped down after each class. I think we will maybe make it 6 weeks before we have to shut down because there are so many cases. Students (I teach 7th grade) aren't great about masks and being clean in general!
ReplyDeleteI had to look up the equivalent UK classed, I think my pair would be 7th and 8th grade and they have to be nagged constantly to clean up! I just worry here with them not wearing masks that COVID will run riot. We will wait and see.
DeleteWe (as in Australia) can attest to the dangers of a second wave. Between March and June we had only 101 deaths, in the last four weeks we’ve tripled that. Even though it’s so far mainly confined to one state and primarily the capital which has been locked down, we are dreading the possibility of spread.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t tried Rain yet, but I might.
Wishing you a great reading week
It’s crazy how quickly it can spread, I think socialising has been the problem here, drunk people cant stay away from one another.
DeleteHave a lovely week.
Modus is one I've been wanting to watch. It's on our local PBS station. I love me some Scandinavian crime series'. I sure hope things can calm down with the virus. I'm sorry to hear the beaches were packed. I hope everything goes well with school for your girls this year! Stay safe and healthy!
ReplyDeleteI love Scandi crime too, I didn’t realise there was a tv show too, I must look to see if I can get it here.
DeleteI hope it calms down but I have a feeling it’s going to have a resurgence before that happens.
Thanks for stopping by!
Hope school goes okay. Got me curious about The Rain. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteAs a teacher, I'm so happy my school is mandating masks for all students and teachers alike. I would feel so uncomfortable if they weren't. Hope they stay healthy! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteNatflix&Books
Thanks Natalie!
DeleteMailchimp is fun to use ....hope you have fun with using it. The kids with school is complicated because children are low risk with this thing but the science is mixed on whether they pass it or not. I get it if teachers wear them. I just feel bad for children with this, no way they can comprehend it all. I just hope we can get a cure soon so things can get back to normal.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a safe and happy week.
It seems quite easy to use, I’m still pressing buttons and figuring it out! I long for things to get back to normal, I think it could be a long way off yet and this will be our new normal for a while.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
I haven't seen The Rain yet. I'll have to do some binge watching of the first two seasons. I hope all goes well with the return of school. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne!
DeleteI have noticed mentions of The Rain on a couple of blogs today, so I might have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI am curious about how going back to school will work...glad I don't have that particular issue, but I worry. Of course our cases are raging here.
Enjoy your books and your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
I’m curious too! Hopefully it will go well, I’d imagine we will know here by the end of next week when all years are back in the classroom and moving about the school.
DeleteThe Rain is great, well worth watching!
I'm glad you can do things. People here are stupid (US). We just stay home and my daughter is doing the online college. It's nice you are getting some things set up for your blog. I use Mailpoet and it's free for up to 2000 subscribers. I follow most blogs through Feedly these days but it's whatever works.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
It is one of the parts of the blog I’ve never quite got right, the whole newsletter thing, I’m going to give it a try and see what happens!
DeleteAmerica is definitely in the news over here, I wish you guys had a lull in cases but that doesn't seem to be happening.
You're the second person who's mentioned The Rain today and I haven't even heard of it! I need to check it out. I requested the first volume of Giant Days after reading your review and it's available at the library! I just need to schedule a time to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteWhen my husband and I tackle projects, I like to offer words of encouragement too. He calls it "nagging." :-D Good luck with school restarting and enjoy your week!
Ah I hope you enjoy Giant Days! I really love it! The Rain is good too, its on Netflix, this is the last season which is a shame but its definitely worth a watch.
DeleteYes my husband accuses me of nagging too!! Have a good week!
It really does feel like the same thing over and over again, for the most part. LOL Cases are going up around me - not TONS in my state, but I feel like it's only a matter of time once school starts again and all that. People just don't follow the rules; it's very frustrating. I hope your kids are safe at school and enjoy being back!
ReplyDelete-Lauren
www.shootingstarsmag.net
I know, it frustrates me when they don’t follow the rules, they think they know better, its crazy!
DeleteThey are alternating between looking forward to going back and crossing their fingers for another lockdown!
Hope your school goes well for your girls.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Devolution. Hope you do too!
Thanks Rachel! I literally finished Devolution in the last hour, I’ll never think of Big Foot the same way again that’s for sure! I really enjoyed it!
DeleteThat is so crazy to me that they are not requiring masks to be worn in school. As of last week when teacher work days started in my district, we were going to use the 3/2 model and split the students alphabetically so A-K comes Monday and Tuesday, L-Z comes Thursday and Friday, and they alternate Wednesdays. As of Friday though, our superintendent closed school buildings and announced that, due to our city being the only one on the list of 50 largest cities in the US to NOT have a mask mandate and also currently seeing a steady rise in cases, that we will be fully remote for the first quarter.
ReplyDeleteI wish your family good luck with the upcoming year, it is going to be a very very strange one!
It’s crazy to me but in the last hour an email (school last minute as always) said they can wear masks if they want to - I’ll see how my daughters feels about it, I think I’d rather they did.
DeleteIt does sound sensible to stay remote, good luck and stay safe!
I so like the looks of your Devolution book better than ours!!!
ReplyDeleteIt always through me when they change the cover, there is one book out just now and not only does it have a different cover it has a slightly different name too!
DeleteThe schools going back will be an interesting test of how the virus spreads. Hopefully it goes okay. I volunteer ina shop and we have to wipe down every hour. It's tedious but at least we're doing our best to stop the spread.
ReplyDeleteIt’ll definitely be a test, I hope it goes well, I really do. You are doing the right thing, at least you are wiping down and being responsible unlike the people who still won’t wear a mask.
DeleteWe've just replaced a wooden bay window at the front of our house - it turned out to be a bigger job than even we had guessed at. It's done now and just needs a few finishing touches. I hope the slab laying is going well!
ReplyDeleteSchool's going back is a very daunting prospect, we're a little later here in England but I'm hoping things go smoothly - sadly there's only so long everything can go on "hold" for. We all just need to be that little bit more cautious and careful.
Your books look really great - have fun reading them!
Wow that is a huge job to take on, well done doing it though, we’d be divorced if we attempted that!! Slab laying is done and (literally) dusted!
DeleteCareful is all we can be I think, fingers crossed it is successful and school is ok.
I've been hearing about The Rain and now I'm curious enough to check it out. Your kids are back in school already. Mine start at the end of the month, Aug 31. My son who is in his last year of high school is dreading it and my daughter is doing her university courses online. It's going to be a weird year for students!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new books!
The Rain is really enjoyable, you’ll have three seasons to binge!
DeleteIt’s definitely going to be a strange year, I’m proud of my kids though they have adapted well!
I haven't watched The Rain yet but I've heard great things!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to see how schools will start here (especially since I'm a teacher myself).
The beaches are packed here as well, some people even started fighting with the police on Saturday. Why is it so difficult to just follow the rules?
I like the cover of Odessa, I hope you'll enjoy it!
Stay safe and have a good week!
The Rain is excellent, I love it and I’m sad its ending.
DeleteThe beaches on the coast here where the same and where I live in the Highlands people have been coming up from the cities for the day and abandoning their cars and blocking rural roads and leaving a mess behind. I long for it to go back to normal.
Sounds like the kind of encouragement I gave when my husband and FIL were laying our patio out back! lol
ReplyDeleteGroundhog week is definitely a thing... It's exhausting. I'm now trying to slot something in every week to look forward to to try and shake things up a bit!
I'm curious with how the school re-opening goes in Scotland. I have a feeling the success of your reopening will impact upon whether the plan to reopen the English schools goes ahead as planned or whether they change some of the safety measures...
I’m the same whether it is a book or a nice walk, its nice to have something to look forward too.
DeleteI’m hoping it all goes well, they seem to have it under control at our local school but they haven’t had the kids back yet, I’ll see how tomorrow goes for my youngest.
That's the way I "help" too when it comes to home improvement projects. Cases are on the rise here lately too. We are a tourist destination which seems to be spurring the problem. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteIt is the best way to help! We are a tourist destination too and the tourists and definitely here in droves which is great but they all seem to have left their common sense at home.
DeleteOoo good luck to the kiddos starting school! I'm happy that the school seems to have it all under control. It's crazy how one pub outing can start an outbreak.
ReplyDeleteI know, I suppose its like they same from one small spark comes a flame, that seems to be the case.
DeleteI will check out The Rain. Hopefully it is streaming somewhere. Good luck with school. The oldest Royal started Kindergarten. They wear masks and she did ok.
ReplyDeleteIt’s on Netflix! Glad to hear they got on ok at Kindergarten, it is a scary time without the whole COVID thing going on!
Delete
