Top Ten Tuesday - Books That Need Netflix Shows

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks topic is

Books that Should be Adapted into Netflix Shows/Movies

(submitted by Nushu @ Not A Prima Donna Girl)

1 - American War by Omar El Akkad
A book about the second American Civil War set in 2074, I read this whilst on blog hiatus and I devoured it.  It was a heartbreaking story about America and Americans turning against themselves.

2 - Giant Days Series by John Allison
I’m obsessed with this series, its consistently brilliant and I never thought I’d be so invested in the lives of three English girls  going to university in Sheffield - I think it would make a good series or would it be to similar to Fresh Meat which is already on Netflix?

3 - The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
Beautiful remote Highland setting.
Beautiful people with beautiful lives.
A murderer.
This will look lovely on screen, I’m picturing it like some of the better French Netflix shows like Black Spot, all dark, Misty  and moody.

4 - Wool by Hugh Howey
Dystopian silo dwellers with no hope until the day one of the goes outside and doesn't do what they are supposed to.  This is apparently in development already, but I have heard it so many times over the years I’ve given up hope of seeing it on screen.  Done correctly though this could be amazing.

5 - The End of the World Running Club by Adrian J Walker
Space rock wipes out large parts of the UK, Overweight man runs from Scotland to South of England to save family.  Love and endurance, this will be great on the screen, destruction, death and quite a lot of humour.

6 - Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky
Already the basis of a bestselling computer game, the Russian subway dwellers terrorised by mutant creatures whilst trying to survive would be good on screen - it would be very dark and claustrophobic I think.  It would also probably be good if Netflix films it in Russian for added authenticity.

7 - The Last by Hanna Jameson
Billed as Twenty Survivors, One Hotel, One Killer, lets not forget the nuclear bombs going off too.  Set in a remote Swiss hotel we see  these survivors fall apart with not only nuclear fallout on their minds but a killer in their midst.

8 - Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
This was a stunning read, notably the way the book is set out with its scraps of info throughout, would it make a good tv show, yes I think it could.

9 - The Greenland Diaries by Patrick W Marsh
A devasted world tormented by creatures that are summoned by a drum, a survivor trying to survive in an increasingly strange landscape.  The books are very creepy, this could be good on screen.

10 - In Death Series by JD Robb
Future badass cop Eve Dallas solves crime in future NYC.  There are plenty of cop shows out there but these books would make such good tv viewing.  I do always think of the tv show Castle when I read these.

  2. Ooh, Illuminae - I forgot about that one. That whole series would make a briliant TV show. :)

  3. Heather, I sadly haven't read any of these, but from reading your descriptions I think The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley would make a TV show I would definitely like to watch! 😃

  4. Ooh, yes to The Hunting Party!

  5. It's hard to believe that the In Death books haven't been adapted but I guess it would be difficult to have the technological advances. I also see it as being quite dark a lot of the time, but it would be fun.

  6. End-of-the-world stories should be big right now. The Last sounds very scary, and Wool is a book I always meant to read. Great list.

  7. I actually want to read The End of the World Running Club, and if you think it will make a good movie, then I want to read it even more!

  8. Well, you are in luck, because Brad Pitt is adapting The Illuminae Files. I am pretty sure it's going to be a TV show and it has the makings to be amazing.

  9. The end of the world running club seems like it will make a great adaptation! And the Hunting Party is right up my alley.

It's terribly cold and rainy here today. I'm done working now and I'm going to curl up with Netflix...

Thanks for stopping by, hope you will enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Ooo that is a difficult question, I’d say the one that has stuck with me the most is Hugh Howey’s Wool, I really loved it and it has spawned fan fiction by published authors!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  20. I would love to see The Hunting Party on Netflix. Especially with the misty Black Spot vibe. I love that show!!!!

  21. American War is a little optimistic thinking there won't be another American Civil War until 2074 :-(. People are so divided these days.

Illuminae would need a talented screenwriter to adapt it to film format, but I think someone could do it.

    1. I know, its all get a little close to home isn’t it.

Illuminae I’m picturing going on for seasons like Battlestar Galactica.

  23. I wish I'd remembered The Hunting Party and The Last for my list this week because those are two books that I'd really like to see on the screen. They would both make a great series or film.

  24. I plan to read The Hunting Party and The End Of The World Running Club. Not sure when but I do plan to!

  25. The Hunting Party is waiting for me at the library!

  26. I read Naked IN Death not too long ago and think it would make a great adaptation. And I think a story about a 2nd American War would be devastating, I just hope that never happens for real.

    1. I hope it doesn’t happen for real either.

The In Death series is perfect, I’m surprised nobody has attempted it yet!

  29. Can you believe I've only read one In Death book? I think my library is missing the second one or something? There's a reason I haven't read more and it's not because I didn't enjoy the first one. It's been a long, long time since I read it, but if they can adapt Altered Carbon with all its crazy tech (my husband watches, I just catch bits and pieces), they can manage In Death!

    1. I don’t see why the couldn’t, you are right, there is plenty of fancy tech to do it justice!

  30. Oh, The Last is a great pick! It might even make a better show than book. ;)
