Ally Linden, a successful finance journalist steps out of the rain on a Thursday morning and in to her office, a normal work day in the heaving metropolis of NYC except its not. Ally hasn’t worked here for five years and to make matters worse she has no recollection of what she is doing there or why she is far from her usual well groomed self.
Intrigued? Check ups with the experts conclude she went in to a fugue state possible caused by something that traumatised her, she has no visible signs of injury and the last thing she can remember is arguing with her husband Hugh the night before. It gets worse for her when he collects her from the hospital he reveals that their argument took place on Monday night, so what happened to her on the Tuesday and Wednesday?
Little by little the pieces of Ally’s puzzle are stuck together, however be ready for a lot of red herrings. The secondary characters keep you guessing, her husband seems to have been keeping something from her, her intern seems power hungry, he didn’t do anything suspicious but I felt her brother was up to something plus I’d better not forget her ex lover who comes back on the scene. Ally’s childhood also comes back to haunt her, could something that happened all those years ago be responsible for something now?
She enrols the help of a PI to bring the puzzle pieces together and to be quite honest I really didn’t see it coming but when I got to the end I had an “ah!” moment. It is very cleverly done, like I said above red herrings have you pointing the finger at everyone until the big reveal.
I’ll be honest I didn’t warm to Ally straight away but as the book progressed I did warm to her and her journey to the truth. An excellent read mystery fans!

DeleteThis sounds interesting! I enjoy red herrings, but I also hope there aren't too many of them. That can get frustrating.

DeleteThis sounds really good and this is an author I've really been wanting to read. I don't mind if I don't love the main character at first if the plot pulls me in but I do like that you warmed to her as the book went on. Adding to my TBR!
