Book Blogger Hop - 18th to 24th September

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

Question

18th to 24th

What draws you in more: the book's title, the book's cover, or the summary on
the back cover?

(submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

Answer

It has to be the cover.

For example below is one of the my favourite covers, Uprooted by Naomi Novik.  Now the front cover is just beautiful ( this is a UK cover ), there is something about it that just draws me in.  The back cover in this versions case is just glowing praise for the book, deservedly so, but nothing visually draws me in.

A cover always calls to me, even looking on NetGalley I’ll be sucked in by the cover before I even look to see what it’s about.

However to contradict myself I have had beautiful books in my hands, gorgeous covers then I’ve taken one look at the synopsis and quickly shelved it!

What draws you in?

  1. I think the cover is the first thing that will draw me in and make me take a closer look at a book, but if I'm not interested once I read the blurb, it's a no go!

  3. Cover is definitely the first thing that pulls me in. Then I read the synopsis, but it's rarely the other way around, unless it's an author I love.

  4. All of the above really. A great cover and interesting title will get me to pick the book up and read the blurb but I'll only buy if I love the sound of the blurb!

    1. Yep a beautiful book can have a blurb that makes me put it back on the shelf!

  5. I'm really not that much concerned about covers. Yes, some book covers you just can't walk by, but I mostly go for the authors and premises. Elza will of course only go for the shiny covers...

  6. Covers are one thing that gets my attention but mostly I go by the synopsis of the book and if I'm familiar with the author.

    1. Yes I’d agree with you there, if it’s a go to author I’m not as bothered about the cover.

  7. It's a toss up between cover and title but both are always factors!

    1. A snappy title will also catch my eye but the cover usually does it for me!

  8. That is a very pretty cover.

And....covers draw me in first too.

  9. Hmmm...if I'm just browsing, then the cover or title is going to be the first thing I notice. However, I'm not going to read books by cover or title alone.

    1. A pretty book can be of no interest on the inside! It’s always best to check!

  10. I love these hops. I haven't done one in so long.

I'd say it's the blurb that makes me choose a book.

  11. The summary. I'm too smart after blogging for so many years to let the cover, or title reel me in. 😁
