How are you all, I hope wherever you are you are safe and sound.

This week, when I should have been packing for Orlando, I have been painting the house which is simultaneously tedious and fun, I’ve been helped along by classic 80’s rock ballads and funny podcasts.  I also have the amazing ability to not only get paint on the walls but all over myself.

It is getting really cold here, my better half tells me it was near freezing when he went to work the other day and as I write this I am thinking I’d better find a scarf for going out with my dog Fern.

This week also saw two tv announcements from both Boris Johnson our PM and Nicola Sturgeon our First Minister.  The UK coronavirus scale has been put back up to level 4 due to cases continue to rise and rise.  Here in Scotland we have stricter restrictions in place than in England, we are no longer allowed other households to visit though we can see one other household outside, pubs and restaurants have a curfew of 10pm and there is threat of tighter measures if this doesn’t work.

In blog news the dreaded legacy blogger became my only option earlier this week with no option to revert back to legacy however when I went to type up a review yesterday it reverted back to classic.  I’m not sure what is going on but I’ll keep it on classic for the moment.

I also bought my third copy of The Stand as it dropped in price for the kindle, I have this hefty tome on audiobook and as a paperback and I have never got to the end.  Hopefully this version will help me crack it in time for the TV series starting!

This weeks pictures are of my gorgeous girl Fern and some more sky porn.

Have a good week everyone!

  1. I'm so jealous that you are still able to use the legacy version. The new version seems to be my only option now, and I'm not liking what it has done to the formatting of my posts. I'm seriously contemplating a move to another host after almost 9 years on the platform.

    1. I don’t know why it’s reverted, it was properly on the new version and there was no option to go back. It’s a mystery. I’m going to stick with it , better the devil you know!

  2. Ugh Blogger is killing me. I guess I spoke too soon a few weeks ago when I thought I was doing okay- the images thing is pissing me off! And weird previewing stuff. Oh well. Sorry to hear about the Covid situation. It's a mess here and never seems to get better but we're completely dysfunctional now anyway.

    Sorry about Orlando, that sucks...

    1. The preview is a bit odd, I had to switch off the pop up blogger. A lot of my images, like the books in a row above, I format on canva as I had problems lining them up in legacy blogger.

      Dysfunctional is the norm!

  3. Covid here is only restricted (so far) to people who have been repatriated. We have no community transmission but life was very strict (not any more) and rules were followed rigorously. Curfew meant curfew there was no nonsense with the military in charge of enforcing the rules. Today it seems to be under control.

    1. I don’t think our rules were enforced enough, our police have the powers to fine people but because that rarely happens nobody seems to bother.

  4. Blogger is pretty much doing my head in and I actually dread doing a post as I don't know what new irritation it will bring! Getting Goodreads up and running is taking longer than I thought-maybe next month! We've had extra weeks of restrictions and I'm glad I avoided the flu jag chaos coming next month by getting mine done at a pharmacy. Now I can stay at home and interact with my squirrels!

    1. I’d stay by the squirrels, unless I really need to, I’m staying out as there are still loads of tourists kicking about.

  5. I'm hopeful I'm starting to get the hang of the new Blogger (watch, now it will start giving me problems!), but it's still taking me longer to do everything.

We are worried about a 2nd wave of the virus where I live; so far it's been ok, but we will see how things go.

The second wave is definitely in full swing, hopefully the cases will start to go down soon.

  6. ((HUGS)) Such a big disappointment. Fingers crossed you will be able to visit the parks in 2021. Your pup is too cute! I made the switch in blogger a while ago. They are still tweaking it, but so far, it's been fine for me and the refinements have made things easier than in the beginning too.

I’m going to stick with blogger but I’m keeping it on legacy until it finally decides to change me over.

  7. I'm so sorry they are having to clamp down in Scotland because of the virus, but it's such a nice feeling to know that your government values your people and focuses on that rather than, say, a booming stock market. Sigh. I'm sad about America right now. I guess that's obvious.

I read The Stand way, way back when it first came out. My husband recommended it to me. It has to be one of the scariest books I've ever finished (and I only finished it because my husband wanted me to). I felt like I was right there, in that awfulness, and that speaks to Stephen King's amazing writing. I hope you are able to read it all the way through soon.

Look at that sky. And look at that adorable dog. Wow. Thank you for improving my mood with two photos.

    Have a good week!

    1. I really do worry for America, I’ve loved visiting Florida over the years, we have a timeshare in Disney World but the way everything is we have considered selling. Thankfully even though Boris is our prime minister we have a first minister Nicola Sturgeon who has led Scotland down a stricter path to England.

I’ve made it half way through the book and the audiobook but as I do the majority of my reading on kindle I thought I’d have a better chance finishing it that way!

You are welcome re: the photos!

  8. Hi Heather! I'm not even sure what Blogger I'm using at the moment.... I does appear as if I'm just about the only one without problems... Don't know why!! Or I'm missing things.

Anyway - we are in the bushes, no wifi and bad cellphone reception. So hotspot doesn't work all that lekker either. Will try to go online when I can!

PS: I read The Stand on my kindle. Took months and I've read it in sections. But it was still worth it.

    Have a great week!

  11. The Covid numbers in my county went way up last month, but even though our state governor said that if that happened were were to revert back to phase two (only essential stores open with curbside restaurant and pub takeout, curbside pickup at other stores with ordering online, and no gyms or salons open) we have stayed in phase four. 😡 It's a shit show.

    I love Fern. 🐾

    1. It is shit, it’s like they’ve given up giving a crap! But it’s the same here even though stricter restrictions are in place and we have more cases than the first time round, pubs and restaurants are still open. Plus I can understand how my parents or in-laws can’t visit but twenty people can be at a wedding, COVID must be very clever to differentiate.

  12. I hope next year finds you re-booking that trip to Florida. I'll even wave to you as you fly over me here in northeast FL. LOL How opposite our leadership is... your PM is putting restrictions back in place as numbers go back up. Our idiot governor is reopening more (restaurants now have *no* restrictions) even though our numbers have not lessened and there were another 177 deaths in one day just here in FL. But I guess that's an acceptable number and means we should move forward. It maddening. I hope you finally make it through The Stand! It's been years and years since I read it, but it was always my favorite by King.

    1. Yes! I’ll give a time of my fly by!! Saying that every time we seem to come in over Bermuda and I always worry about that triangle!

I can’t believe the restaurants don’t have restrictions, that’s crazy, the restaurants I’ve experienced in Orlando are massive and to think the are going to be full is bonkers!

I will finish the Stand, I will!

Sorry to hear about the corona numbers still rising. The numbers are still going up here as well.

That's good you can still use the classic option for blogger for now, it's always difficult to switch to a new system when things like that change.

I an no longer just copy and image (like a book cover) from Goodreads and just paste it into my review. I have to save the image and upload it. Otherwise I am cautiously optimistic that things will be okay with it.

  21. Wow people really don't like the new Blogger. I hate changes like that but I'm on Wordpress which has its own editor change I'm avoiding. Great photos - yay Fern. The weather here is glorious so I am getting out to do yard work - fall planting on days when it doesn't rain. People at our neighborhood book club were talking about the Stand this week. I haven't read it because I think of Stephen King as horror but they said it isn't a horror book.

    1. It’s daft that blogger and Wordpress made major changes at the same time.

I avoided King for years because I thought he was purely horror but then I read Under the Dome and realised he wasn’t just killer clowns and rabid dogs! The Stand is a plague novel, it does have grisly scenes but I wouldn’t class it as full on horror.
