Dear Blogger, I HATE your new interface, Love Heather

Dear Google

I’m not usually one to complain but quite frankly I’m annoyed and on the verge of throwing a childish tantrum.

Why? Well quite frankly your new Blogger interface could try the patience of a saint, many, many saints.

I’m by no means an uber blogger, I don’t have millions of followers, blogging is my hobby and that is why one thousand, one hundred and ninety seven posts ago I chose Blogger for my little piece of the internet. Legacy blogger was simple to use and very user friendly.  Now it’s a pain.

I tried to love the new interface, it has some great functions, bulk changing tags is easier and the new statistics look great but there are problems.

First of all what the heck is happening with the preview post option, sometimes it loads, sometimes it’s just a blank page.  The other week it wouldn’t load at all and to sort it I had to disable my pop up blocker which seems a backward step.

Adding an image is a pain as half the time it doesn’t even go where it’s supposed to and adding a video today to a post ended up with my entire post disappearing for some reason.

Editing the HTML is a pain as it’s a struggle to select anything to edit.  It’s seems to take twice as long to do anything.

Google, why do I feel like you are try to get rid of us, you don’t update the interface for years and then when you do it is buggy as hell.  I know I’m not the only one with this problem and I know my complaint will be of no concern but I hope you are listening.

Is Blogger going to go the way of Google Plus?

Love

Heather

PS: I hope the formatting is ok, I couldn’t get preview to work to check.

PPS: I’m sure in a years time I’ll look back at this post and wonder what I worried about.

  1. I don't like it, either! It's so not intuitive! I have such problems with images. And don't get me started on the paragraph spacing!

    1. It would be nice if they still left legacy in place so you could choose between them.

  2. I certainly feel your pain! I've been getting along better with a semi-fix for that settings nonsense but this week has brought all new issues. When I've been adding links, pasting text, changing colour...it has taken up to thirty seconds for the thing to change. It has meant a simple blog post post takes four times as long to complete. Not great when doing a lot of list posts!

    1. Since I wrote this it’s been better, I just wish it would preview, that is my main gripe today.

  3. Wha ha ha ha!! I laughed so hard and lekker (that means good and nice) now. You are so funny.

I wonder if I'm being really ignorant or just really clueless here. But why does the new blogger not bother me?? Interestingly, you know when you helped me to get a new template for my blog? (I am still every so grateful). That was the same weekend that Blogger launched the new interface.

Me and my friend who helped me struggled for hours and ages and centuries, but when everything was up and running - it worked like a charm. And it still does....

I don't struggle with preview pages or to upload photos or videos or anything... I really don't know why... !

I did struggle like crazy with my old template, but that was before the interface.

I wish I could help you. Please just don't go. Please don't go. Please don't go....

Read a lekker (same meaning as above applies) book this weekend. Here's my Weekend Book Friends #12

    1. It has its pros and cons, I think in a few weeks I’ll have got to grips with it, it’s just annoying!

My template was loaded before the update, It seems fine, it’s just when I create a post the editor is a massive pain.

I’m not going anywhere, I keep thinking about moving to Wordpress but the thought of it just makes my head spin.

  4. I’ve cut back on blogging recently because of the changes. It feels like they “fixed” things that weren’t broken and didn’t fix any of the things that were. I don’t get it.

    1. It’s not enjoyable is it, before it was fine, now it’s just annoying. Hopefully someone at Google is fixing all the little bugs !

  5. I have not encountered any of the problems you are mentioning, other than inserting pictures. I will have my cursor in the right place, and the picture will insert somewhere else. I then go into the HTML and move the snippet. I will say it has gotten better. I switched a while ago, and they have tweaked it a bit too. I hope it gets easier for you

    1. Hopefully they are working on it, it’s the usual, change takes a while. I remember changing from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, it was horrific and I’m showing my age!

  6. Yeah, it's safe to say I am not a fan. A few of the changes seem to actually be less user-friendly and intuitive than before and makes me wonder how in the world it can be considered an improvement. I don't "hate" the new interface, but I guess I'm sticking with it and soldiering on.

    1. Hate is probably too harsh a word looking back but it’s definitely annoying. I’m soldering on too!

  7. Ditto to everything you said! I miss the Legacy interface because it was so user friendly and easy to use. Now I have to hunt for everything in Blogger and guess and hope I'm right. And everything takes twice as long to do. I hate it, too!

  8. Ah yes, now that you mention it, the preview page is a pain in the... behind. And I have trouble placing the pictures where I want them, they seem to have a mind of their own, but that's nothing new with Blogger as far as I'm concerned. Also, the size of the fonts can be changeable, I remember having to edit the HTML to have a post with the same size of characters everywhere. Hopefully, with time and a few protests, Blogger will get better ?...

  9. I started using the new Blogger when the changes rolled out so I could get used to it and for the most part I have not had any problems until about two weeks ago. I can no longer copy and paste an image - mainly the book covers from Goodreads. I now have to save the image and load it and it is driving me freaking insane because it takes longer. I am hoping the rest of the issues don't come my way next but I have read of so many people having problems. I don't want to use WordPress, I don't like it, and I am worried that Blogger is going to go away and then I will have no choice.

    1. Now I’m used to that as I could never copy and paste! That’s the way I’ve always loaded on my images! I hope blogger will stay as there isn’t much choice without massive upheaval.

  10. I'm sorry the new interface is so frustrating. Hopefully they'll start listening to their users.
