Before I rant, first of all I hope you are all safe, I have been trying to avoid the news but its impossible and of course the main headlines are COVID, Brexit and the US election (hope you have all voted).  The world has gone mad but hopefully our little community can be the bastion of sanity!

This is my second attempt at writing this, I had several long paragraphs where I prattled on about the usual and as this is new Blogger it auto saves as it goes along.  I had came out of this post to check something and when I came back in it had all gone.  I have actually had this problem a couple of times with other posts but not one I had spent twenty minutes on and whilst I am peeved off is anyone else having the problem where post preview does pop up but there is nothing on it?  Let me know if you have found a fix.

Now this is where I try to remember what I talked about, probably COVID.  The UK cases are growing day by day and more and more people are being told to stay at home, of course not all of them are complying with that.  The rest of Scotland seems to be visiting my area of Perthshire, we have unusually large amounts of tourist, local beauty spots have cars parked on verges for miles blocking the route for larger vehicles notably tractors and very large trucks pulling loads of very large logs.

I am hoping below there will be a link to a Twitter video by Scottish National treasure Janey Godley, if you are offended by swearing then don’t watch it, it is in a quite broad accent but hopefully you’ll get the gist of it.  Janey has been doing a voiceover of our first minister Nicola Sturgeon for many months now and it’s very funny.

I think I also talked about my new found love for The Office US, why I haven’t watched this before now I don’t know but I am making up for it now.  My kids have been bingeing Brooklyn Nine Nine, my eldest now plans on joining NYPD and is currently researching how to get a Green Card, did I mention she is 13.

Last of all I went for a walk today to see the Autumn colours and once I beat a path through the hordes of tourists I got these ones, the burn is particularly high as we have had heavy rain, the noise was something else.

Stay safe and have a good week x

  1. Cases are starting to spike here again, too; several consecutive days of over 1000 cases! It's really frustrating and makes me wonder what things will be like in the winter.

  2. The "new" blogger is so annoying. I have not experienced the problem you mention but I will say that it has taken me weeks to get used to it and creating a post takes more time.
Still, this post was quite entertaining.

  3. Sorry you are experiencing issues with new blogger. I have not had any problems. If you worry about the save, you can force a save using the drop down in the top right (it defaults to preview, but save is the second option). The rate of retirement and resignations of NYPD is rocketing. I am sure they would love a new recruit. Lovely pictures as always.

  4. I'm hiding from all the news right now. Between the election and regular stupidity I'm just done. The new blogger is just so weird. I'm not having huge problems with it but I just don't understand the purpose of the changes. It feels so much more awkward then the original layout. Hope you have a great week!

  5. Hello! I loved your post, you've got a lot of new books, so jealous! I have heard a lot from "A Little Life" and i hope one day I can give it a try. If it makes you feel better, the same is happening in Spain, everyone decided to spend the day in the forest and it got so crowded with cars parked everywhere that they had to restrict it. It is crazy, really. But well. haha have a nice sunday

  6. Ugh. Sorry the new Blogger is giving you trouble. I haven't had any issues since they finally got the photo sizing corrected, but I do hate it when these platforms decide they need to change things. Leave well enough alone!!

I haven't watched The Office, but we've thoroughly enjoyed Bosch and DCI Banks. Such great detective series!

A green card to work in New York?! That's impressive! I'm still considering a move to Canada if all goes down the toilet here. I have dual citizenship, so I can take my hubby with me. Seriously considering it!!

Stay safe and be well. This too shall pass, right?

Yes, it's a crazy world and I do hope & pray that the upcoming election brings us a new administration without too much upheaval and discord. I'm afraid it's going to be a rocky few months no matter who wins. Sigh. Meanwhile, our covid numbers have gone through the roof in the U.S., which is very distressing. My hubby and I are hunkering down in our rv for a week, gearing up for his shoulder replacement surgery. It's wonderful to get out on the beach and walk for miles and ignore the world and all the upsetting news.

I don’t blame you, I think I’d be heading to the border, it’s just all bonkers! I hope you both have a lovely week and have a lovely relax!

  7. Oh my gosh I love Janey Godley now lol. Awesome. And dude- seriously. This. "The world has gone mad but hopefully our little community can be the bastion of sanity!" Yes I feel like the book blogging community is one of the few things keeping me sane right now lol. And new Blogger is killing me. Everything is a mess, it moves my text around, takes forever to load, stuff disappears... it's a complete shitshow.

My daughter loves The Office and watches the crap out of it. I tell her she's a little young for it but she could be watching worse??!?

    1. She’s freaking hysterical! I’ve ordered her book because why not! It’s keeping me sane well apart from new blogger being a pain in the backside!

I love The Office, I’m on season 6, my eldest wants to watch it eventually but she is still watching Brooklyn Nine Nine and won’t watch anything else yet. I think it is ok apart from the odd occasional thing, I’m sure they here worse at school!

  8. I haven't had that problem with Blogger. I do find it easy to accidentally delete the content but undo is my friend. My major issue is with getting paragraph spaces in. Mostly I am okay with it now though.

Our numbers are much lower than they have been but that is as a result of being in lockdown since early July. We are just starting to have some of our restrictions lifted which is very welcome.

    1. It’s just a little glitchy isn’t it, it could be smoother. I’m sure it will sort itself out.

Our numbers are increasing again, we’ve been split up into different zones with different restrictions, it’s just getting worse.

  9. My sister keeps urging me to watch The Office. I haven't yet, but I think I shall take a look, if you are recommending it, too.

Our COVID numbers have stayed about the same since the summer. We are anticipating a rise in coming weeks as our governor (don't go there!) just opened up our restaurants a little more. Madness.

I am crazy for anything France, and I've just bought My Four Seasons in France and added One More Croissant to my wish list.

Your beautiful pictures show me why you are being flooded with tourists. I've always wanted to visit Scotland. My grandma Milby's people were from there, and pictures of old people in Scotland look just like (snow white hair, pale skin, a tendancy toward a pleasing roundness) that side of my family.

    1. The Office is great, stick with it as it gets better with each season.

The UK cases are climbing and climbing, it’s worrying and people are getting antsy.

France along with Japan and Scandinavia are my obsessions, I love them. I just reading about people moving to France when they don’t know the language and all the obstacles they deal with.

I suppose I take my surroundings for granted, I’m used to them but yes if you are coming from the city it’s like a different world.

  10. The video is really funny, thanks for sharing ! I've never had this problem with Blogger, but I'm a compulsive saver : blog posts, Goodreads reviews, any document on my computer I save every 5mn or so (I've had troubles before, yes). Good luck for your eldest's green card, lol ! I read Peter May's first book in the Lewis trilogy, it's a great book, but very, very dark. Enjoy your week and stay safe :)

I am sorry you have so much tourism right now - Northern Michigan is not doing well with COVID and that is more than likely due to tourism (and well, some other things). :( And, I voted! This election has me so nervous. I am trying to avoid most headlines about anything lately.

  16. That's too bad about Google Blogger. I use the free WordPress and they've made major changes in the last year or so. I've finally gotten used to it, but still have a few things I can't figure out how to do anymore.

Covid is surging in the U.S. and unfortunately, our Iowa governor hasn't mandated masks. She says she knows Iowans will do the right thing. I'm hoping for election results that gives the U.S. a significant win for a new administration. I'm sorry everyone seems to be visiting your part of Scotland. I hope the UK gets Covid under control soon. I loved the Janey Godley voiceover.

I hope you have a good week, can avoid the tourists and enjoy some good books.

  17. Hi there Heather! I'm so sorry Blogger is being mean to you. I don't have the same problems as you, but I have been having a few problems with comments? Happened a couple of times where I will type a message on someone's comment block and then it just disappear...! So I don't know WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!

You've been busy on the blog! I haven't been that busy, life is a bit hectic.

Please let me know what you think about A little life? It was a GREAT read, but gosh it's heavy and depressing... I will suggest to read it in sections.

I'm also going to keep an eye out for when you've read Rodham. It does tickle me, but I know next to nothing about American politics and don't feel like a political read.

Anyway! Hope you will have a good week! Here's my The Sunday Post #16

A Little Life is a hefty book so I think I’ll take my time with it, it’ll probably be next year when I get to it. I just fancied Rodham, my American political knowledge isn’t great so I think it’ll be very interesting!

  18. I love both versions of the Office, but am a bit partial to the US version not only because it is the first one I saw, but that I absolutely love Jim so much.

Cases are spiking in my state, specifically in my county and city. It is so incredibly stupid that people refuse to wear masks and get all angry when stores require it. Have some common courtesy and stop being so selfish, is what I would like to scream at all of them. It is so gross.

But right now I can barely pay attention to books for more than a few minutes at a time...too distracted by politics. Nov. 3rd can't get here soon enough. Today the weather is lovely so I will pop outside and dig a little in the yard in preparation for winter. Thanks for dropping by my blog. I don't like all the new "improvements on blogger either. 20. Looks like you got some great books! I'm curious about this Library of the Dead - not sure I know that one.

COVID cases are going up around me too (KY/OH) and it's definitely nerve-wracking. Also, frustrating, because people are obviously not following the "rules" or guidelines really. People don't always wear masks, or not the right way, and they're gathering in large groups and just...I don't know. I mean, it's hard to be 100% safe all the time, but some people really don't try and it's making things go up again. Bummer it's happening near you too!

  29. I had issues with preview back when I first switched over to the new Blogger. I'd press it and zero would happen. I've had the disappearing text over the last two weeks which has been really frustrating the twice it happened. I had a whole book tag lose its text without me doing anything other than move the cursor! Undo didn't work either so I had to start again. Gah! We went back up to almost as bad as it ever was with Covid in my area, but the county executive only put our warning color up to yellow. 🙄 Everything is on an honor basis and most restaurants went back to take-out only, but that only lasted about two weeks before they opened up again, even though we're still on yellow. And of course the college pubs didn't close at all. 🙄

That voice over was hilarious. I had no problem understanding because one of my college buddy's grandmothers was Scottish and her accent was difficult to understand a first, but I'm pretty good at it now. 👏👏👏✨
