Hello everyone, have you all had a good week? I’d imagine my US readers have been on tenterhooks.

As I write this Biden is at 253 and Trump at 214. I’m horrified to read armed Trump supporters are gathering outside counting centres. No matter what the final outcome is, I don’t think the battle will be over as their lawyers start sharpening their claws.

To balance out the depressing news this week (Election/Covid/Terrorist Attacks) I enjoyed rewatching Ghostbusters and Aliens, two of my favourite classic films on Halloween then I started watched Truth Seekers on Amazon Prime and then ended up watching all the episodes over two days.  It is good fun and it made me laugh more importantly, I love Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, they haven’t made much that I don’t like.  I have also continued to watch The Office and I am on season 8, I have to admit I think I like it better than Parks and Rec and I love Parks and Rec but I don’t feel guilty as they seem to share writers, producers, actors etc.

I had my first virtual parents evening on Tuesday for my eldest which was like speed dating by phone, no sooner would one teacher call another would call then another one and then they started phoning both my mobile and my landline, it was a tad chaotic!

Last of all I have started my online Christmas shopping, my kids no longer ask for dolls and cuddly toys, my youngest has requested a Japanese Lolita style dress along with a Kimono or Yukata plus a two tone wig (she likes cosplay, did I mention she is only 11) and my eldest requires hair straighteners and something called an Ooodie which seems to be a massive hoodie blanket affair for which they charge £84, I don’t think so!

Stay safe and have a good week x

  1. That virtual parents evening does sound chaotic! Hope it went well, though. Your post reminds me that I have yet to read The Bassoon King (I kind of want to read it just because of that bassoon part haha but also I loved The Office).

    1. It was very chaotic but at least my daughter got a good report from all her teachers. I love the character of Dwight and Rainn Wilson seems to be such a nice guy.

  2. I think we all suspected that a close result would end up in the courts and this was as close as you can get. It doesn't say much for faith in Biden if even a global pandemic doesn't get him a landslide win!

    1. Hopefully Trump will leave peacefully in January, as long as he doesn’t head over here.

  3. Our parent's evening was virtual too but since it was primary school - and only one teacher - it worked. I think I'd have lost my patience with the speed dating / both phones thing!

This week feels like it's been one thing after another - and the US election is taking forever and annoying me even though it's not my election, lol - so I want to go hide in hole and not come out until spring... But we soldier on! :)

Hope this coming week is a good one for you.

    1. One teacher would have been fine but there was many, it was crazy! I’ve another next month for my younger daughter so no doubt it’ll be the same!

  5. Virtual parents evening. Wow! I always hated doing those in person when I was teacher because so few parents showed up and I had to work from 6 am to 9 pm. Maybe more would come if it was virtual.

  7. I imagine those lawyers are hard at work now! I haven't heard of Truth Seekers, but will have to check it out. I don't know why I don't think to watch much on Amazon Prime . . . I started my Christmas shopping this week too. It was kind of my stress-reliever this week with the election news. I hope you enjoy your new books! Have a great week and stay safe.

    1. Truth Seekers was really enjoyable! I’ve avoided Amazon prime because it’s a pain to switch it in to my tv but I’ve forgotten I can watch it on my tablet!

  8. So glad the election is over here but yes it's been wild!

    Love Aliens.

  9. Ooooh I like the look of The Marlow Murder Club. I'm not even almost at Christmas presents yet. I think it will have to be one of those years where creativity needs to be heavier than the purse. This year just about ruined me.

I will have a look at Truth Seekers. We can all do with a laugh.

    Have a wonderful week Heather!

      This year has been hellish.

  11. The election here has been turbulent, but when my son texted us yesterday to say that Biden has pushed ahead I felt like rejoicing. I'm hopeful that the election challenges will be quickly dismissed and we can move forward to a time of reconciliation.

We are going to watch The Office this week during our trip to Arizona. My sister is a big fan. I've never seen Truth Seekers. I'll have to see if I can find it.

The Bassoon King sounds really fun, too.

I hope you have a lovely week, Heather.

    1. I’m glad Biden got there in the end, Trump has been very quiet considering he still has a country to run.

I’m on my second watch of The Office, I love it more than Parks and Rec! It’s just brilliant.

Hope you have a lovely time in Arizona.

We just finished Truth Seekers, too, and really enjoyed it!

  13. I am glad to hear you watched some good shows to offset the depressing news. Good luck with the holiday shopping. That hoodie blanket your daughter asked for does sound comfy, but ouch that is pricey! We did a bit of our shopping online already, but I am not sure yet what we're going to buy for my family members. i hope you'll have a good week!

  14. A winner in the US election has finally been declared (yesterday!), and you are right that the transition and aftermath will not be peaceful. So much anger will continue over the next couple of months...and going forward will not be easy. But I am feeling hopeful for the first time in four years!

Enjoy your books and your week, and I am smiling at daughters moving beyond dolls to fancy dresses. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. I’m glad to see such joy in America at Biden being elected though there are still a lot of people who aren’t happy. I hope Trump goes quietly.

I’ve been scouring the internet looking for Japanese dresses, looking for Barbies was much simpler!

  16. Too right about the lawyers, Heather. The one in there will never graciously concede and will instead do what he does best: litigate. Oh well, his days are numbered whether he accepts it or not. My how the Christmas wish lists have changed from dolls and games. LOL

  17. Well, Biden was called as winning and while it will undoubtedly get crazy during the next weeks, I don't think Trump has any viable support to fight the decision. Meanwhile we keep reading and trying to figure out how to have virtual holidays.

  20. Ouch the parents evening sounds chaotic! We have one tomorrow but it's nothing like yours - just one teacher to talk to but then my daughter is a kindergartener so life is simpler for now.

After five days of the nail-biting and edge-of-the-seat election results trickle, I'm so glad to see how it ended. It has been a crazy week. If it were a movie, I'd be rating it high for intrigue, climax, and the thrill.

    1. It was manic, it felt really rushed. I have my youngest daughters parents evening next month so I’m sure it’ll be more of the same.

I’m glad the election is over, will Trump go quietly!

  21. So glad the election is over! I doubt any of the lawsuits will have any impact. Just a sore loser grasping at straws now.

I've never heard of the Ooodie, but 87 pounds is a lot of money. Kid's gifts get more expensive as they grow, right?

Loved Aliens! I'll have to check out Truth Seekers. Simon Peg is fun. I love The Office, too! We've watched it through at least 3 times. Enjoy.

  33. A week after the election and the lame duck president is doing more than simply dragging his feet. It's quite unsettling to think about what he and his cronies might be up to, but I'm holding on to hope that it's just a lot of hot air. I did just read that he is considering a run for President in 2024, which would make one think he's about given up on this election. Not sure why he thinks he would have a chance in four years, but I doubt anyone ever knows what he's thinking.

I haven't heard of Truth Seekers, but will take a look. We *finally* finished Game of Thrones last night! It's a show that we have on DVD and only watch when we're traveling in our RV. Just our little tradition, I guess. Anyway, we are finished and now I want to watch it again!

Christmas shopping gets much easier when the kids are grown. Hang in there! :)
