This year I thought I’d try some book challenges and there are a lot to choose from. I’ll create static pages underneath my header to keep track. The first one I’m doing is a personal one and it is....

I have a lot of books sitting waiting for my attention patiently on my bookshelves, I have kindle books jostling for space on my downloaded pile. I am overwhelmed with books, I’m sure you know how it goes. I don’t want to buy any new books this year, I have enough books to read and review for the year. Eagle eyed readers will notice a tiny note on the graphic stating some exceptions. The exceptions are books I preordered this year that aren’t released till 2021, in my eyes they have been purchased in 2020! I also suppose publisher copies will be allowed to...but nothing else. If I can do it well it will be a miracle but I’ll stay strong!
In the last few years I’ve really been getting into translated fiction especially Japanese and books from Scandinavia. Jen @ Introverted Reader is doing this challenge. If you click on the logo it’ll take you to her signup page. I’m hoping to hit the bilingual reading level which is 7 to 9 books. I have a good few translated gems ready to be read!
The last time I was in America we had great fun playing the number plate game, we had a great start as our hire car in Orlando came all the way from California. In books, I read a lot set in the States and it sounds great fun to keep track. Escape with Dollycas Into A Good Book is hosting, click on the logo for more details.
I love a good mystery, a crime to be solved, I’m there too! I seem to be reading more and more mysteries, suspense and crime books than ever. They make a great escape. I’m going to try Carol’s Notebook Cloak and Dagger Challenge, I’ll set the bar low for myself with Amateur Sleuth which is 5 to 15 books. Click the graphic to learn more.
I own a lot of Discworld books or should I say I own a lot of unread Discworld books. I have read about ten books in the series and I’d like to go back to the start and work my way through. Annemieke at A Dance With Books is hosting Turtle Recall. I’ll aim low with level one! Click on the graphic to find out more!
I haven't decided if I'm going to do any reading challenges next year yet. Good luck with these!
ReplyDeleteI don’t usually but I thought I’d give it a try!
DeleteThanks for signing up for my Books in Translation challenge! I need to narrow down my choices and get my own signup posted. There are always so many good ones to choose from!
ReplyDeleteI did notice that "With a few Teeny Weeny Exceptions" and laughed. I have to give myself an out on book-buying bans as well!
Good luck with your challenges!
You are welcome, I love translated fiction so I’m very much looking forward to it!
DeleteThese all sound like fun, except the "no buying books challenge," lol. I wish I could do that! I'm afraid I would fail the first week of the year. Good luck, Heather!
ReplyDeleteI’m going to try, if I see a book I really want I’ll just put it on my 2022 list!
DeleteIt's already time to do reading challenges again??? At least that means this horrible year is almost over. ;) I'm not sure what I'll be participating in yet, but love the ones you've chosen!
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
It’s not over yet, I wish it was but this gives me something to look forward to!
DeleteOh, yay, you are doing Turtle Recall! 🐢
ReplyDeleteThe translations challenge sounds fun. 🌐
Good luck with the book buying ban challenge. I think you can do it, I really do. 📚📚📚
I can do it! I am strong and full of willpower! Argh!
DeleteHogfather started so if I slow down the last chapter it can be the first entry for my Turtle Recall!
Woah, a whole year without buying any books? I couldn't do it. LOL I love mysteries and thrillers, so that Cloak and Dagger challenge looks fun. I also want to read more translated work.

I have so many books to be read, I may have had a last minute book buying spree though!
DeleteSome interesting challenges up there. I always do Literary Escapes and fought, tooth and nail, to finish it this year.
ReplyDeleteIt looks good fun, I’ll give it a bash!
DeleteI love the idea of the Not buying books challenge, but my first thought when I read it was "good luck with that !". "With teeny weeny exceptions" looks more like it, lol. Still, fingers crossed ;)
ReplyDeleteI figure if I preordered in 2020 then it doesn’t count as being bought in 2021!
DeleteThese all sound like great fun! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb!
DeleteHeather!! I feel as if I haven't spoken to you in ages! Now I see why... You are making your challenges for next year!! I haven't even started... I have a few in mind, but I will first need to see how can get them all to link up.
ReplyDeleteI am hopping over to have a look at the Literary Escape Challenge. Maybe I can link that up with my own idea of "around the world in eighty books".
Hope you are well otherwise!

I’ve not been doing Sunday Post or much visiting so I’m behind!
DeleteI’m very well, hope you are!
Good luck on these challenges!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deanna!
DeleteI'm not going to do any challenges next year except trying to get my TBR reduced a bit. I really hope my reading efforts improve next year...
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year properly trying, hopefully I’ll reduce my TBR!
DeleteReading challenges are such a good way to get to books I am not getting around too. They can also give me a feeling of failure, lol. I agree with you on your first one but I just could not commit to not buying books. I know, I admit, I have a problem.
ReplyDeleteI have a huge problem, I’m going to give it a try, nothing ventured, nothing gained!
DeleteQuite a few challenges that look like a lot of fun! I always have a harder time finding specific challenges because there tend not to be too many involving non-fiction vs fiction. Best of luck, can't wait to see how these all turn out for you!
ReplyDeleteThere was a huge list to choose from, like you say some seem a bit more challenging, these ones look fun.
DeleteI really like the idea of the "I'm Not Buying Any Books" challenge. I too have way too many physical and digital books that I still haven't read and buying more books on top of that is proving to be overwhelming. When will I ever read all of these books? So I might try that one. I wish you best of luck on completing these challenges!
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie, I’m going to give it a try. I have so many great books waiting for my attention!
