Hello everyone, hoping you are well.

This week hasn’t improved, more restrictions in place in Scotland, more cases in my local area, new variants popping up, its like living in a dystopian novel.  Oh and there’s been a load of snow too.

I’m glad I’m working from home and I’m glad the kids are homeschooling as quite frankly I don’t want to leave the house.

On a happier note I finally watched Godmothered on Disney plus this week which was a lovely film, maybe I should have watched it at Christmas.  I’m going to try Soul next, it looks good.  Any happy film requests gratefully received!

Have a lovely safe week x

  1. Oh boy, sorry things still aren't looking up Covid wise. And with snow, I'd want to stay tucked up inside too! That's good you can work from home. I still need to watch Godmothered. It looks really cute!!! I finally watched Enola Holmes on Netflix and really enjoyed it.

    1. Godmothered was very cute, I wish I’d watched it at Christmas! I haven’t tried Enola yet, I think I’ll give it a shot.

  2. I’m sorry the situation is worsening, hopefully the restrictions will work
I’ll be interested to see what you think of Vanished, (published as 55 here) it has quite the ending!

Wishing you a great reading week

  3. Ugh more cases. Same here. Plus school drama :(

Oh well, be well this week!

Your books look good. I like the cover of that one with the paper lanterns!

  4. Happy and light has definitely been keeping me sane through this all. Glad you were able to find some films that did the job. I never want to leave the house either. Just the one day a week when I go shopping. Stay safe (and warm).

    1. I’ve given up on the one day a week shopping, I’ve finally managed to get a grocery delivery slot!

  5. Covid is bad in California too😥 I'm just crossing my fingers that the vaccine will actually have an impact. Hang in there, sounds like you and your family have the perfect set up to stay safe😁

  6. Yeah we had heavy snow and Mrs Fish telling us not to go out the house again EVER. At least, that's what it feels like!

  7. It started snowing here this afternoon, I'm glad we're stuck home too ! And the curfew has been moved to 6PM instead of 8PM... Oh well, let's enjoy our homes, happy week-end !

  8. A rapidly spreading virus and all that snow...it does sound like a dystopian novel. (Which I love to read, but have no desire to experience in real life.) Good luck this week! Hope you're able to stay both safe and sane. :)

    1. It certainly sounds very dystopian! I love to read them too but I don’t want zombies or anything else appearing!

  9. Yes - I'm aware that the restrictions in Scotland are even more stringent than ours here in England. Sorry about the snow, which I hate... I have the Adrian Tchaikovsky book on my TBR so I hope you're enjoying it! Here's hoping the coming week is an easier one.

    1. It would be much less confusing if we all had the same restrictions! Tchaikovsky was highly enjoyable if totally bonkers!

  10. I am sorry to hear things are difficult for you with restrictions, Covid and the weather up in Scotland, although I'd kill for some snow! I hope things become easier for you soon and at least it sounds like you had some great books and films to escape into. Take care and happy reading. 🙂

      Happy reading too!

  11. I don't know if it's worse to have more cases and shut down more (your situation) or to have more cases and continue to go along with life as usual (my situation). I wish people would think of others and take precautions, but, no, I live in the Wild West, I believe.

We enjoyed Queen's Gambit so much, and now we are watching All Creatures Great and Small from the 1970s.

I like the sound of Butterfly House and Murder in the Age of Enlightenment. Hope you enjoy both of these.

  12. Here things were pretty similar, with new variants popping up and lockdown being prolonged and we got some snow too. That's nice you can work from home and your kids are home too, so you don't have to go outside as much. I try to limit my shopping to one day so that's only one day I have to go outside. Have a good week!

  13. I can admit that I watched a few disney movies in 2020 and tons of homemade Youtube clips with kids as characters(thanks to my son) I'll check Godmother, sounds fun.

  14. Godmothered was so cute and it had a lovely message! Loved it. And yes, Soul was quite good too. I just think it might have to come with a bit of parental guidance with a few of the spiritual aspects.

Proud of you for not buying any new books! I actually also haven't bought any new ones and I didn't request anything either. School's a bit messed up at the moment, so I guess my focus needs to be there.

Glad you are at home and you are all safe! Take care!

  18. I haven't heard of Godmothered - I'll need to check it out.

And you are right this feels like a dystopian world. When I read dystopian fiction, I've often wondered how worlds can get to the brink to collapse or extinction. But seeing how many people still don't wear masks and some leaders couldn't care less, I think I should really wonder why we aren't there yet. Or maybe we are and we'll realize soon. Yikes!

  20. Yeah this covid stuff is a battle for all of us right? It really wears on one right? Hope you find great ways to find some relaxation and peace of mind through it all.

I can definitely see the appeal of homeschooling and I think due to these restrictions, its been a positive thing for many families.

Hope you have a wonderful week.

  21. I’m like you - I prefer to just stay at home. It’s safer and easier that way. When the walls start closing in, I just take a walk. We don’t have any snow here, so that’s still an easy option.
You are going to love Soul. It’s a wonderful movie!

  25. We are essentially just staying home and barring the door at this point. There's definitely a bit of a dystopian vibe right now. Did you homeschool before the pandemic? We did and it's been such a relief not to have to add something new to all the craziness though we miss seeing all our friends and doing all the travel we used to do. Have a great week!

  30. Sigh.. yes the lockdown that started here mid-December is still going strong here too. And it doesn't look good for improvement anytime soon.
Let’s hope things will get better soon, because I can't imagine living like this for many more months. Not necessarily because I mind.. but since there are more demonstrations and aggressive people out there every day.
Have a great week, stay safe and happy reading.

I'm fine working from home... It's nice knowing that we're all tucked up safe but I'm not going to lie: This lockdown is the one that's broken me.

Soul is good. I enjoyed it much more than I was expecting. :)

  32. I'm drawing a blank on happy movies we've watched recently. We watched Soul but I found it a bit odd. Great music though. We mostly watch shows or the occasional Marvel movie (we're trying to re-watch them all in timeline order. We just finished The Winter Soldier.)

I'm sorry covid cases are getting worse and your restrictions are getting harder. We're trying to decide where to go for my husband's next work assignment. We're tired of the tight restrictions that don't seem to be very effective in California but we're afraid to go to a state that has no restrictions at all. There doesn't seem to be a happy medium anywhere. Oh well. At least my husband has received both his vaccines already so he's protected!

    Enjoy your week!

    1. I heard California was really struggling with the cases, there is just no let up is there. That’s great your husband has got his vaccines, my husband will hopefully get his in the next few months as he has MS. I think it’ll take a long time before we are all vaccinated.
