Hello everyone, hoping you are well.

I’m not going to mention the C word this week or politics but yay for President Biden, instead I’m going to talk about what I’ve been watching!

It’s probably not the best timing for a show but I’ve been watching The Stand on Starz, it’s a lot better than I thought it would be and Alexander Skarsgard is perfect as Randall Flagg.  As I failed to finish both the paperback and the audiobook, fingers crossed I get to the end of it.

I’ve also started watching The Great, it’s ok, I’ve only watched the first episode and I’m not sure if I want to continue or start Bridgerton instead, any thoughts?

For a weekend film I’m going to try The King of Staten Island, I’ve heard lots of good things about it.

I’ve been cooking lots this week, as I’m working from home, I’m making great use of my recently purchased crockpot trying out soups, curry and a nice stew over the last few days.  It’s fab and makes the house smell nice!

Have a lovely safe week x

    1. It was instantly enjoyable, I was surprised as usually these kind of shows are hyped and fall flat but it’s very good.

  5. I love soups and currys, I plan on buying a rice cooker one day ^^ I haven't watched those shows (except Bridgertons) so I can't really give any advice - I'm still on Supernatural. Old barn, cats and corpse make me think about Lilian Jackson Braun's series "The cat who" ;) Enjoy your weekend !

    1. I must watch all of Supernatural one day, I’m many seasons behind.

I wish I had a bigger kitchen so I have counter space for all the cool kitchen gadgets you can get!

  6. I need to dig my crockpot out and start using it again. One of my favorite cookbooks (SkinnyTaste) has so many great recipes for the crockpot and it's wonderful to have those delicious smells filling the house all afternoon. Thanks for the reminder.

We just finished Season One of The Bay (a detective series), which was quite good.

    1. The Bay, I shall have a look as I enjoy a good crime show.

Exactly, I think I’d quite happily fill it with spices to bubble away to make the house smell lovely!

  7. I love slow cookers. You can prep ahead and the just dump and passively let it cook. I am all about that life.

    1. They are great, I like the fact it can take five minutes to prep and then stick it on for the rest of the day!

  8. I love Alexander Skarsgard so just the fact he's in it is enough to sell me. I haven't been watching much tv unless it's true crime or lightweight enough to be background but hopefully my attention span will improve soon. I miss movies! Hope you have a great week!

    1. I watched another episode of The Stand earlier today and Alexander is magnificently creepy in it! I’m not watching too much either though when I’m working I put the US Office on in the background.

  9. The Cat and the Corpse in the Barn looks good. Animals always improve murder mysteries.
I really must make better use of my slow cooker. I never know what to do with it beyond soups and casseroles.

    1. They certainly do but I always worry if I read a book with an animal just in case they don’t make it and I know I’ll be in tears 😭

  10. I am a little jealous you get to watch The Stand. I will have to wait for it to come out on disc. I am glad you are enjoying it. I read the uncut version a few years ago and enjoyed it. The Cat and the Corpse in the Old Barn looks so cute! I love cozy mysteries. I'll have to check that one out. I hope you are enjoying it. Have a great week!

  12. The best gift I got when we married was a crockpot. Some of the best meals I've ever made were in the deliciousness that stewing for hours in a pot will give you. I especially like soups.

The inauguration was fabulous, wasn't it? I had gotten to the point where I felt physically sick just listening to that awful fellow who has now (thank heaven!) left.

The Cat and the Corpse in the Old Barn looks like good fun. Cozy mysteries have pulled a lot of folks through the last months.

    Have a good week, Heather!

  13. I could do with more cooking at home. We aren't doing takeout or anything but just not cooking as much as I would like.

I know everyone has been talking about Bridgerton but I'll probably give it a pass - not my cup of tea. The Stand - I would like to watch this. The trailers look good.

    1. I seem to go through phases of cooking and then taking the easy option.

The Stand is really good, better than I thought. Bridgerton I love but it won’t be for everyone but I was pleasantly surprised after the first episode.

  14. Ooooe yea!!! I'm so glad to hear the new series of The Stand is out! Will take a look. I've read the book, unabridged. Doorstop!!

    Bridgerton.... *sigh* Definitely.

The cat and the corpse in the old barn seems nice. Probably mostly because of the pretty white kitty on the cover!

So proud of you for not buying new books yet. Yea!

Have a good week my friend and take care of yourself.

  17. Yes, yay Biden and Kamala!! We loved The King of Staten Island at our house. What did you think? Cool that you got the new Vendela Vida. We got rain which is so great because we have not had our winter rain yet and I was afraid it would never come. Rain is a precious thing in So Cal.

  19. I'm not watching much other than quizzes or reality shows such as The Great Pottery Throwdown and Landscape Artist of the Year. And yes - I have a slow cooker, too - Himself loves making veggie casseroles at this time of year. They are so tasty and comforting:)).

  23. Nice to hear that the remake of The Stand was done well. I read the book many years ago and thought it was excellent (if not overly long). I really liked the original TV adaptation, too, with Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald. So well done.

I love my slow cooker and just used it yesterday to make an apple bacon barbeque pork tenderloin. So delicious!
