Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme created by the Bermuda Onion Blog and now hosted at Elza Reads where you can share new words that you’ve encountered, or spotlight words you love!
This is my first attempt at this!
The word that has caught my eye this week is......

I’m currently reading The Last Policeman by Ben Winters and its a book about the end of the world, cheery I know. The end is going to be caused by an asteroid (or is it a meteor, I get the two mixed up) and during the book they talk about the APHELION of the object.
I don’t know if I could use it in a sentence but it’s certainly new to me!
Definition of APHELION (Collins Dictionary)
British English Definition:
American English Definition:
the point in the orbit of a planet or a comet at which it is farthest from the sun
I love this idea, and bonus, this book is on my TBR😁
ReplyDeleteI’m on the last book of the series now and I’m really enjoying it.
DeleteLove this feature! I write new-found words on my journal regularly. So I might join in the fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI’m glad I found it too!
DeleteI don't think I really care what it means. It's just such a lovely word. Sounds so nice and fancy. Almost like a Greek Goddess.
ReplyDeleteYour book has me interested, going to take a look now.
Aaah, I appreciate your participation so much!! You did me very proud yes.
The book is very good! I’m really enjoying taking part and looking for words!
DeleteThe Last Policeman is a great series. Read the lot! Lots of deep thoughts on what life means and what would you do if you knew the end was nigh and there was nothing you could do about it?
ReplyDeleteLovely word. I should participate from time to time. I'll be more aware of those words that stand out for me.
I’m on the last book now, you are right, it makes you think.
DeleteWhew! That's a beautiful word. I think I have run across it before, but I'm not sure I ever really knew what it meant.
ReplyDeleteIt has a nice ring to it doesn’t it.
DeleteNice pick! I can just imagine how many sci-fi books must be taking off from this one! I try to study astrology sometimes (though not an expert by any means!), and aphelion comes up there too -- usually a point of intense cosmic activity.
ReplyDelete~ Lexlingua (lexlingua.co)
Thanks Lex, it was interesting to learn exactly what it meant!
DeleteI used to do something like this on my blog. I called it Word of the Day. I kept a notebook of new words I came across. Must have gotten lazy. LOL.
ReplyDeleteIt’s nice to learn something new every day, keeps us young!
DeleteI don't think I've ever come across this word. Thanks for broadening my vocabulary!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome!
DeleteSuch a great idea for a meme! I will have to start collecting new words so I can play too!
ReplyDeleteI’m always on the lookout now!
DeleteOh, this is fun!! Love learning new words. <3
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteI see this is your first week. I was going to take part this week but hadn't saved a word to use (doh). Anyway, I do have something saved now for next week so see you then.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I’ll see you then!
DeleteCool. I love astronomy terms. 🔭
ReplyDeleteMe too, they make me feel smarter too! 😉
