Hello everyone!
Not much to report this week at all, more and more people I know have now had their first vaccine. My kids go back to school full time on the 19th of April and they have to test themselves twice a week - this is not mandatory but I’d like my pair to do it so have signed them up.
My eldest turned 14 this week and was very pleased with her new desk and Karen McManus books, she’s very much in to YA Murder.
Hope you are all well, have a lovely safe week x

This was preordered last year, so I’m not counting it as bought this year!!

Happy birthday to your eldest! 🎂✨
ReplyDeleteI want to read those M.R. Carey books, too. 📚
Have a wonderful new, week! 🌞
Thank you! Have a good week too!
DeleteIn my state I will finally be eligible to get the vaccine on April 1st, although I've been hearing that its so hard to get an appointment, so we'll see! Have a good week😁
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed you get in there early, have a great week too!
DeleteIn France, we're very much late on the vaccine, unfortunately, I'm still waiting. I'm glad at least other people have access to it, the more the better. Happy belated birthday to your daughter ! I'd love to have your opinion on "I'm waiting for you" and the Peter James, one is on my virtual TBR and I have to P. James on my physical shelf on my right. Enjoy your week-end :)
ReplyDeleteEurope has been very much in the news here with the increase in cases and more lockdowns. Hopefully the vaccine rollout will speed up a little. Have a good weekend too!
DeleteVaccines are definitely ramping up! And yay for McManus- I love her books.
ReplyDeleteHope you have guys have a fab weekend!
My daughter just loves that kind of book, I may have to pinch them! Or get her to review them!
DeleteHave a good weekend too!
I definitely recommend. Her newest the Cousins was good!!!
DeleteIt's a wonderful feeling to see people getting vaccines. Every day I see more and more people who have gotten theirs. There's a feeling of relief.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your oldest!
You have lots of great books there. I'd love to know more about The Beautiful Ones and Waiting for You.
I hope you will have a great week, Heather!
It is a great relief, obviously there are a lot of people who don’t want the vaccine but the majority do and that gives me piece of mind!
DeleteHappy birthday to your eldest! I think I would sign mine up for testing if that was an option too. I will say the previous hospital my son was at did patient and caregiver tests once a week. I didn't mind at all and you do get used to it but both my son and me started having bloody noses once or twice a week which we normally don't have issues with. They weren't terrible but you may want to stock up on tissues! And if they have the option have them switch which nostril they have swabbed regularly. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI stocked up on tissues at the weekend! I can see nose bleeds being a thing with all that poking about! I think it’s a great thing they have access to these tests so they’ll definitely be doing them, though I’m sure they’ll grumble to begin with!
DeleteI love Karen McManus and her murder-y books. And I agree that it is better to take the test regularly.
ReplyDeleteI’ll need to pinch them off my daughter!
DeleteHappy Birthday to your eldest. Did she have a zoom party? (my nearly 12 year old has requested one for her April birthday)
ReplyDeleteLateral flow tests have just become part of life for most of us. I have to do one every shift I work and my daughter has frequent tests at school, all have been negative so luckily.
Charlotte Burt's Books
No she was more interested in trying out her new desk and reading her new books!
DeleteI think it’s great we have access to these tests, definitely worth doing them.
Husband gets his first shot this week! I am waiting for an appointment or the age limit to drop which I think it might next week.
ReplyDeleteThat’s great news! I’m waiting on the drop too!
DeleteHappy birthday to your daughter! My oldest (almost 16) is a big reader, and I've tried to get her to write reviews on my blog, but she says no. I said she could be Book of Secrets 2.0 and she rolled her eyes. Ha! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter managed a couple of reviews when I first started but now she is older and stroppier it’s too much like hard work!
DeleteHa! Dial A for Aunties and not M for Murder. Like that! You are doing good with the no book buying challenge this year!
ReplyDeleteWe are on holidays at the moment, but I think after the Easter Weekend more schools will be back full time like the private schools. That's if we are not hit with a third wave. Vaccines are at least 3 weeks behind here in good old SA, so I guess we can expect just about anything!
Have a good week and I will see you for Wondrous Words Wednesday!
Elza Reads
Yes, I have been tempted but I’ve have stood my ground!
DeleteI keep hearing about this third wave, a lot of the UK is vaccinated but it’s still a worry.
I’ll be back for WWW in two weeks!
Vaccine rollout is really slow here, I’m curious about how your children are tested - do they have to do the deep nasal swab?
ReplyDeleteI want to accept Dial A for Aunties but I couldn’t squeeze it in to my schedule, I look forward to seeing what you think of it.
Wishing you a great reading week
As far as I know it’s a swab from throat and nose, not got the kit yet but it seems quite straightforward to use from the videos they gave us.
DeleteMy schedule has went all to pot so I tried my luck and got it!
A new desk and a book sounds like GREAT birthday presents!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt’s my kind of present too!
DeleteI think if I pre-ordered a book last year and it didn't arrived until this year I would have forgotten and thought I got a surprise in the mail.I hope you enjoy your books.
ReplyDeleteI have done that a couple of times and as recently as this week!
DeleteI like the cover of The Beautiful Ones :) Our school district had everyone in person full time starting last week, but I'll be surprised if they can keep enough kids out of quarantine to continue, especially after spring break. My kids are both full virtual til next fall.
ReplyDeleteI think virtual is the way to go, I’d think after the holidays here the cases at schools will shoot up when they all go back.
DeleteHeather, I am pleased to hear more and more people you know have been able to get the vaccine; that your children can return to fill time school soon; and that your daughter enjoyed her birthday and gifts. Take care and happy reading in the coming week. 🙂
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica, have a good week!
DeleteI read one of those McManus books for COYER book club and really liked it which I don't always enjoy YA. I want to read the Koli books but haven't managed to get started. YET. Normal is what I would love for a week to be. (I don't mean COVID, or my pain, or my daughter's issues) I mean all of it. At least it is spring here and things are starting to grow.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
I’m really enjoying the first Koli book, I’m hoping the rest of the series is as good, I’m sure it will be.
DeleteI’m loving all the daffodils that’s have started to pop up, yellow is such a happy colour and I love seeing them everywhere.
My husband really enjoyed The Book of Koli, but I haven't gotten to it yet.
ReplyDeleteI’m slowly working my way through it, it has some amazing world building in it.
DeleteI'm so grateful that more and more of my family and friends have now been vaccinated! I don't mind waiting (I'm not in an at risk group and I'm tested 3 times a week for work) but I don't think it'll be too much longer really the rate they're going before we're all done.
ReplyDeleteI'm keeping my fingers crossed that things continue to go well and open up so I can actually see my mum this summer! It's been well over a year now. :( We all need that return to whatever normal will be, I think.
Have a good week!
I don’t mind waiting either, I think I’ll be a few months till I get mine. My husband should get his second this month all going well.
DeleteI can’t believe it’s been a year, our stay at home order lifts tomorrow and changes to stay local so that will make some difference but it’s not the same as a hug with someone you love.
Have a good week too!
Happy Birthday to your eldest! So glad more people are able to get vaccinated, too. I've had my first and can't wait for the second. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThanks JoAnn!
DeleteHappy birthday to your eldest!! That is so wonderful she likes to read. :) I really need to read one of McManus' books one of these days.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great week!
My Sunday post: https://herbookishdesires.wordpress.com/2021/03/28/%f0%9f%8c%9ethe-sunday-post-3-27-2021/
She loves a good Murder mystery! I’ll need to pinch her books!
DeleteWow! So, you have at home COVID tests? That's wild. The kids are returning in many states/cities in the US too. My sister has a total of 9 students for in-person, but the governor says only in-person for next year unless things go sideways. Hope all goes well, and your daughter is wise to read McManus - her books are fabulous
ReplyDeleteYep, it is voluntary but I think they should do it. Peace of mind and all!
DeleteI think I’ll need to pinch the books once she is finished, she’s got Holly Jackson too!
I hope going back to school is a great thing for your kids and all of the other students and teachers! Baby steps :)
ReplyDeleteExactly, they seem happy and they are even happier now as they are on holiday!
DeleteI'm really anxious to get word of our second vaccines...I hate waiting around for the letter!
ReplyDeleteI’m looking forward to my first!
DeleteI know a lot of folks with their first shots too but I still can't see to get an appointment. That's life I suppose. I really enjoy McManus' books, has your 14yo read Holly Jackson as well?
ReplyDeleteShe has read all of Holly Jackson and is eagerly awaiting the next! She seems to love a good Murder I don’t know if I should be worried!
